You'll need some software, probably from the camera manufacturer, that will allow you to access the computer and monitor the cam(s) remotely. That means that you'll bypass a firewall, and have access to the computer. That means that other people will, as well.

Next, you will need to know the IP address of your internet connection. If you have a static connection (your IP doesn't change), you're ready to go to the next step. If you don't, do a search for "free dynamic DNS" and choose one of those. It will require that you download a piece of software and then you'll log into their site to get to your home cam(s).

Do you need to monitor, or would it be easier to record it? You could use your computer as a DVR to record as well. But in all honesty, what you seek to do is not easy with home use web cam software. You might look into security cam(s) and the software that comes with them.

dunno what you've got outside but start with your exits & entrances. then move onto your parking area. leaving your car, truck or whatever? monitor that, if you are. think like a b & e person (break & entry), and if you were to break into your house, where would be the best , easiest & most secretive? your choice. police might be a good place to ask, as well. good luck!
