You can go to Yale! If you dream it, and believe it, you can do it.
To get in to Yale you need to think about three things:
1) Be up to par academically with the best students in the world, meaning the basics, great grades, excellent writing skills, excellent math skills, excellent reading comprehension, know a lot of words (vocabulary should be great), and do well on an exam that basically says, hey this person really does know all of this stuff called the "SAT" as well as show one or two activities or things you do really well (Student council, maybe sports, drama, volunteering, it does not have to be all of these or any of these things, but it should be one or two activities that you do very well - but do what you truly enjoy too, dont just do to do - do what you enjoy and makes you you, your young, so you can change your mind by the way if you try something and don;t like it)
2) Understand what makes you unique - God made one you, so what makes you - well, stand out... you have time for this, so just live a little (your in middle school kid! --- breath and enjoy)
3) Be able to pick out the things that make you unique (stand out from the other kids who want to go to Yale) that is also important
(again you have time for this!)
Next, don't worry about the money or the pinch every penny talk. It simply is not true. Universities first look at the applicants and ask themselves if they are someone they'd like in the school and as an alumni. If you fit and it is meant to be, your in.
Universities will help every admitted student get the $ needed to attend the program. They want you there if they admit you, so they'll help you make it happen.
In your sophomore year visit the school
So, those are my thoughts, but here are some resources online for you to check out too.
http://www.yale.edu/admissions/
Before you apply visit Yale, take a tour through the admission office, talk to students, talk to the admissions people and be thankful, send thank you notes to everyone you meet and talk with.
And if you don't get in... by some chance... go to another college for a year and then transfer into Yale! Transferring is a great way to get your diploma from a top notch school.
If you want to go, you can and you will!

For right now, learn some really excellent study habits. Get excellent grades. It's not enough to get a 4.0, you must take AP classes so you can get above a 4.0. Ace the SAT and SAT II. Better start studying for those now. Do some quality extra-curricular activities. Don't just join 50 clubs and be a member in each one. Join 3-4 and be president in all of them. Better yet, start the club yourself. Lead a group of volunteers and clean up beaches. Organize something. Do something pretty extraordinary like write an expose on something scandalous going on at your school or in your town. Start an organization that teaches illiterate adults to read. Work part-time. Play sports too. And maybe a musical instrument.
Good luck, kid.
