Hi, I was wondering if rats and mice can be kept together as pets?

No, Rats will kill mice if they are kept together in the same cage.
Rats are both prey and predatory animals. Rats have been known to hunt, kill, and eat animals that are smaller then themselves. Prey animals for rats include small pet birds, pet mice, pet hamsters, and insects.

BTW, the odor of a rat is very stressful to mice. When I had mice I not only kept them in separate cages, but I also kept them in separate rooms.

No. The rats are dominant over the mice because of their size. The rats will kill the mice.

Absolutly not!! Rats and mice seem to be like mortal enemies. I've had both, mice stink more though. My rats actually would act like they were going to bite me if I touched them after the mouse. They may seem similar, but rats will kill mice.

NO Your little mouse will be gobbled up in a second or beaton to death. Never should you do that little mouse versus big rat? No way. Don't even put them in the same room. If you do put them in the same room then your little mouse will be terrified and miserable.

i have a rat and mouse but they are in different cages. they are both female. i tried putting them in the same cage and at first they fought but eventually they got along. i see no problem in keeping them together. as long as you are sure they like eachother and you trust them. KEEP AN EYE ON THEM.

SICK....... 1st of all THEY'RE DIFFERENT SPECIES!! if they are in the SAME CAGE they will have BABIES. EWWWW! you want small rodents with HUGE tails???????? 2nd of all how could you like RATS???
