They have no shot at repeating. Last year was a fluke. They will be lucky to play .500 ball.

Even though almost every team in the NL Central has improved their team, I still would have to give the edge to the Cards. They not only have been there before, but they still have a very good team. They may not end up as World Champions again, but I still think they will be in the playoffs. Their starting pitching is solid and they have a pretty balanced lineup. If they can stay in the pennant race at the All-Star break and make a trade at the deadline for another starter, they could even repeat.

When Kip Wells is your #2, as is currently the status on the depth chart, you have to worry about the rotation. But who knows? The offense will still be just as sound as any in the division and maybe Mulder will come back strong in mid-season. Maybe Wainwright and Looper can become starters and do well. And if a good move comes up by the trade deadline to land another quality starter from a struggling team, StL could be right in the mix towards the end. I do think that the Astros will probably be the only team not in the mix come August.

Being a Milwaukee Brewers fan.. The team that almost eliminated the Cardinals during the regular season.. We got Suppan.. That is going to hurt the Cardinals more than they think. IF Capuano and Sheets come back to form the Brewers are going to have an amazing starting staff. It's going to be a dog fight till the end against the Cards. The Brewers also have a better closer. I live in St. Louis right now.. it's hard dealing with these fans.

Google "1964 Cardinals" sometime. you'll see this replaced into now no longer the first time the Cardinals made a very last minute run on the pennant. It replaced into also now no longer the most suitable time a series crumbled (like Atlanta did). reproduction & paste shrink than. "As late utilising reality the morning of Sept. 21, Brock, Gibson and the playing cards trailed the Phillies through 6 a million/2 video games. The Phils' magic volume, because it were, replaced into seven with 2 weeks of baseball very last." "perfect" run in historic previous? likely. yet not at all the first time they ever did it.

I'm a Cardinal fan, but our inactivity this offseason has me scared. Our starting rotation doesn't look too good, but I remember a couple years back when Jason Simontacchi came in and gave us like 7 starters, but we didn't win a championship that year, so anything's possible. I think Kip Wells can succeed under Dave Duncan. Chris Carpenter is definitely an integral part of our pitching success. Adam Wainwright and Anthony Reyes are small question marks, but Chris Narveson may surprise some too. Our hitting and fielding are fine. Our bullpen is decent. Our starting pitching is questionable.

once again neck and neck???? that makes no sense before last season the two before that were 100 win seasons? you need to inform yourself there buddy.... the odds are they wont repeat but there is always a chance i agree that if we make a trade and get another starting pitcher then we have a much better chance... the infield is one of the most solid in the game and our pitching isn't half bad either i think our biggest question right now is how will our outfield produce offensively.... i saw they take first in the central and make it to NL championship at least.... and your right we will miss suppan... he was a work horse!

I feel the same way I feel every spring, knowing that we have a chance to win a World Series Title.Sure last year was a magicial ride but I've been on a lot of those in the past with The Birds on the Bat. I'm looking to defend the Central and then its a crap shoot from there

I'm from stl and i don't think we are going to repeat. I think that we'll make the playoffs but not another WS. And that decision is one with our current staff. If walt were to somehow make a trade or two for some starting pitching then, I would probably change my mind on how far they will go in Oct.

So much depends on the question marks in the rotation. Reyes, Wainwright, Wells, ect. are going to have to step up and be reliable starting pitchers for them to win this year. I see the Cards battling the Brewers for the NL Central title this year.

Their pitching staff -- both the rotation and the bullpen -- is shaky. Luckily they're in a weak division, so they'll be in the hunt late into the season. But in the end I think they'll be edged out by Houston.
