If you're going to the snow then you need warmer clothes than the previuos answerer mentioned. You should wear a waterproof jacket, nylon pants (like sweat pants) if you have them, a dry change of clothes, sturdy shoes - preferable waterproof, warm gloves, a hat, some kind of lip protection, and a decent pair of sun glasses that you could loose and not worry about. I'd throw everything in a backpack along with some snacks and a bottle of water. A good blanket to cuddle up with is a good thing to take too.
You'll probably be sledding down a hill so obviously bring a sled if you have one (but if you're asking what to take you probably don't have snow toys). People will be throwing snow balls, and you will slip and fall often - so be prepared to get wet and to have fun!

Snow and San Diego don't often come up together in the same sentence, but it sounds like you're going to have a fun time. Some of the mountains in Southern California do get snow in the winter, and some ski resorts also make their own snow.
Do you know if the weather report says that it will actually be snow falling at the time you are out there? You can dress a little differently if you are just out to have fun in the snow and it is sunny out versus it is actually snowing.
The key in either case is to wear layers. Start with thermal underwear (or long johns) - both tops and bottoms. Wear a t-shirt then an overshirt or sweater or sweatshirt, and then a jacket over that. A knit cap or beanie, if you have one will keep your head warm (and keep body heat from being lost). It will also keep your ears warm. Wool socks (or any thick socks that keep your feet dry) and waterproof shoes are a plus, as snow will melt slowly and try to seep into your shoes. If you don't have waterproof shoes, at least make sure that your shoes don't let moisture seep in through the bottom sole.
The key to the layers is that when you're out playing in the snow (or working), you will get warm, so you can take off a layer, like the inner sweatshirt, to keep yourself comfortable.
Insulated gloves or mittens are handy if you want to make snowballs. If you don't have insulated gloves, gardening or work gloves can help keep your hands warm and dry.
If it is supposed to be sunny out, sunglasses are helpful. Sunlight reflects off of snow, making it bright out.
If you are going to be actively playing in the snow, perhaps bring a change of socks to wear on the ride home, in case your first pair get wet. Wet socks can make for cold feet. Jeans can be a bad choice - if they get soaked, they may never dry out.
If it is going to be windy out, definitely make sure your outer layer can repel the wind (like a jacket, and doesn't let the wind in, like some sweaters). Even a thin windbreaker over your sweatshirt will make a big difference. Best plan for a little breeze.
What else to bring:
Since it sounds like you don't know much about snow, you probably don't have a sled or snowboard or skis. If you have a round plastic garbage can lid, they make great sleds. Large sheets of plastic also make great slippy slidy rides.
Also, bring some snacks and water to drink. Playing outside in the snow uses up energy and makes you hungry.

I am sorry, I missed the word "snow" on your question originally. You want to bring thermal underwear, hat scarf and gloves, waterproof shoes and a heavy coat.
