I would be willing to pay double my current property taxes if that would improve the public schools substantially, and I think it would. That would actually save me money, since then I would not be shelling out exorbitant amounts for private school the way I do now. And even if I didn't have kids in school, I would be willing to pay more taxes to improve the public schools, so that we could have a better-educated and more productive work force, fewer dropouts, fewer criminals, fewer prisons, fewer drug addicts, and better-educated fellow citizens. We ALL benefit from giving EVERYONE the best possible education.

Since i have no children its not that big of a deal to me.
But....they are building all new schools in my city. I dont know how that will effect my taxes but i really dont have much problem with it. Considering most of the school buildings around here were 50 to even 100 years old they were due to be replaced.

ARE YOU KIDDING? Why pay more when all we have to do is get rid of the deadbeats and incompetent, inept and maleficent employees that can't even communicate in Standard American English? Why give them more money to squander and mismanage? WHY don't we just ALL demand a bit of excellence or competence from our supposed educators? WHY?!!!
They can't inspire learning? GET RID OF THEM! Why do we keep such incompetents on the payroll when all they do is cause problems and slow down progress and hamper the educational system?
THAT's what you get when you involve education with politics! Get rid of the mismanagement and the squandering of funds and there will be enough money to go around and some to spare! ALL we have to do is re-distribute the funds so that the neediest schools can receive as much as the schools located in the more affluent neighborhoods, NOT LESS!
GET RID OF DEADBEATS and those who are political cronies and do nothing but occupy space!
More money is NOT the solution; that's the old conservative solution to all ills... spend more of the taxpayers money foolishly! Instead of throwing more money at the same old tired problem, how about working on solutions to get rid of those deadbeats, inept, incompetent and malfeasant that do nothing but occupy space and hamper the efforts of those educators that want to teach? DEMAND accountability and get rid of inefficient supervisory staff that only look out for their cronies. This is the result of lowered standards, the result of Republicans interfering in matters they know nothing about: education, efficiency, accountability, top standards, etc., etc., etc!
I overheard one teacher say, "After I had went and done talked to them people, they still ain't done nothing and they kids is still misbehaving..." and another teacher responded to me with, "Ah still don't gotta learn no English, all I gotta do is know MAFF." That same week, my daughter was transfered into parochial school!
Why aren't teachers required to take periodic competency exams to demonstrate that they KNOW what they're teaching and can COMMUNICATE in UNDERSTANDABLE Standard American English?
Goodness, I went to a child's graduation last Fall, and I couldn't believe (nor could I understand) the Principal's speech... that idiot couldn't even speak English, and more than half the teachers couldn't either! NO WONDER our kids can't learn... our teachers (supposed "educators") can't speak or communicate in Standard American English!
Special Education children that do NOT receive the Federal mandated and PAID services but the paperwork gets filled out routinely and systematically... but the children do NOT receive these services... why isn't anyone ever caught? Becasue the supposed "unannounced" visits are ANNOUNCED a few days before...!
I hear them talk about working "hard" but not once have I heard one single, solitary teacher say that he/she worked EFFICIENTLY!
And I also hear how some teachers must provide paper and pay for copies out of their own pockets when I KNOW that those schools have a budge of over $80, 000 for school and class supplies? WHAT GOES ON HERE?
It's the same thing with contractors with contracts to refurbish schools; they get a one-year contract and they stretch it to three years, where they over-bill and over-charge the Educational Department ($8 for a lightbulb, $8 for a common black garbage bag, 4-10 non-existent employees that the contractor "collects" a salary for... ); college and university Presidents with familiy members that have cheques mailed to them even though they neither work on/off campus for said institution nor do they stepped on the campus grounds for years! THIS has been going on for years and NOT ONE investigation? GIMME A BREAK!
Reconsider that question. Throwing more money at the educational system without demanding accountability is merely giving them more money to squander, mismanage and play with! It will NOT solve any problems, as been the case in the past and present!

No. It's up to the people in that district to improve their public schools. It's not the Federal government's job.

no. I'm willing to fire the entire crop of teachers and administrators and rehire the ones who can pass a simple competency exam at twice their current pay. We'll come out cheaper.

Your question is still more proof that the left has forgotten what little it ever understood about federalism. Education is not properly a federal concern. If there has EVER been an issue which should remain at the state level, it is education.
You might want to re-read the Tenth Amendment: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved for the States respectively, or to the people."

I'm honestly not willing to pay anything for any public schools at all. It's my money, I don't understand why anyone else is entitled to it. Especially when it's so obvious that the increase in money would never benefit anything -- INSIDE the school, that is.
