The shift linkage or cable is broken, or has come off. Make sure the linkage/cable is still attached firmly to the transmission, and to the shifter. (It's easy to find. Have a friend shift up and down with the engine off, while you look under the hood - you should see it moving.) If it has just come off, re-attach with the shifter in Park, and you should be fine.

Good luck!

if your automobile is parked on a steep hill the parking sprag can jam. Have some pals, or possibly a pals automobile, and push the motor vehicle approximately 6 inches up the incline. this could cut back the rigidity on the trans and allow you to shift. if that's the case, use your parking brake sooner or later, and pull it up firmly till now you place it into park and then launch it when you get it into kit.

You didn't say which model, but...

If you are handy with do it yourself, slide under the car and find where the linkage hooks to the transmission, replace or tighten the bolt up with the selector in park so it will move again.

If you aren't, call the tow truck and send it in to be fixed. But I'd bet it's linkage loose. They do break, but that's pretty rare.
