Yeah it is, Think about it,only the kids who are so not serious about owning a cell phone and it it ring off in class . The mean teachersdo write the student up and Some of them may take it away if a parent dosn't come to take it after it And sometimes if they don't or it -that teacher may keep as a gift for her self. Only the nice techers let you off or let it go if it makes a sound. It's for a warning. But other then that Not all the time.
Cellphones are great? Who ever made them is like really smart and cool. Wihout them , we can't live without them even the thin razors !

I actually disagree! Cellphones going off in class are completely disrespectful to both the teacher and the other students. This is also true for texting in class. Texting is just a new way of writing and passing notes in class which teachers have fought throughout education history. While you are in the classroom, you should be focused (as much as possible) on learning the material being taught by the teacher. If you already knew everything and got perfect scores on every test, it wouldn't matter. I do agree that some teachers handle it to the extreme and are respectful to the students, but if you're school has rules to not have such on campus, you are breaking the rules and they are obligated to report it. It is the same thing as bringing toys to kindergarten. The cellphone is distracting you, the other students, and the teacher. Just put the phone on silent so you aren't interrupting anymore and don't answer the cell in class.

First of all, this isn't an article, it's a blog commentary. I would go so far as to say, not a very well written commentary. The student who wrote it should probably put away his ipod and pay attention in both grammar or writing class as well as any logic or debate classes available.
I do not agree with the 'article', as attending a public school has a certain amount of obligation entailed. Entitlement is an overblown concept in teenagers, and as well, the popularity of any item does not guarantee that any use of the item is acceptable. With both of those arguments in affect, I don't see any appropriate use of such electronic equipment within a class. It's rude and disrespectful to disregard and interrupt the teacher and other people in the class who are trying to listen.
I will say that in our public schools, kids aren't even allowed to have electronics on campus, which I fully disagree with. What children do in their free time is certainly no business of the teachers.

If the writer is suggesting that these electronic devices be allowed during times of individual study and practice, I see no problem with that as long as the student completes their obligations. However, how do you expect the student to participate in class discussions or listen to class lectures and take notes while listening to ipods and the like? Contrary to your premise, if I cared nothing about my students success, I would allow them to insulate themselves and refuse to participate. Sometimes teachers do what is best for their students even when their students disagree.
