I noticed that there was a weird build-up in my fish tank that was also on the plant, thermometer, and heater. I'm not really sure what caused it or how to get rid of it. I had a really hard time getting it off the heater and plant.
Does anyone know how to get rid of it, or if it's dangerous to my fish?
Thanks!

If it is whitish in color it's calcium buildup from hard water. Scrubbing the items in vinegar then rinsing well should remove it. You can also scrub it off with a cloth using salt as a scrubbing agent, that works too. It's harmless to the fish and for all practical purposes impossible to prevent in harder water.

sounds like algae. get one of those magnet things, one side of the magnet is in the tank on the insside of the glass, the other is on the outside of the glass. Use it to scrub the green away. You'll need to remove the heater etc to clean them, just by crubing with clean water, do not use any kind of cleaning product or it'l kill the fish
