The Exorcist was produced based upon several books on exorcism and when first released caused major trauma for some viewers. Is Exorcism itself real? Yes. All Christian denominations have some form of rituals and procedures to free some who is deemed possessed. The Catholic Church is the most prolific with exorcism and archives cases continuously from all around the world. I am a Catholic and asked my pastor about this one time and he said possession is real but rare. In some instances, people have medical conditions. The church rules out all possible and probable causes before engaging and exorcist. An exorcist has special training for performing an exorcism.

Okay, if you are talking about the old movie with Linda Blair.. the answer is YES. I live in St. Louis. The story is based on a young boy who had all those things really happen to him. The Hospital it happened in was torn down. If memory serves me correctly the Priest who performed the excorcism is still alive. They claimed the child was not possesed and was actually making the stuff up. IF you are not talking about the movie with Linda Blair I apologize and will walk away humbly..

The movie is quite real, and it made quite a bit of cash at the box office.

The story? No, not real. The 1973 movie is based on a novel, and the 2004 one is based on the first.

All i know is that its based on a true story. So something similar happened, but the movie was probably a bit more exaggerated.

It's supposed to be based on fact. Some boy back in the late 40's early 50's who was supposedly possessed.

No, its not a true story. Although it is based on events that have happened. You can look uo exorcisms, but i don't think you'll find, any documentation about someones head spinning around.
