Check the connector between the computer and the outlet. Frequently that has come loose and that's why you lose power. Tighten that and watch your computer take off. Tech support would cost you $99. You just got that advice for free.

The usual causes for random shutdowns are:
1)Overheating triggers auto-shutdown to protect the CPU;
2)Memory module going bad;
3)Power supply going bad.

It's under "power managment" in your control panel.

Just set the plugged in setting to "always on".
