Hi there,

I'm looking to lease my first car and I've been doing research for a while now... I've went through all makes and models and I've finally reached my match (in my opinion) a 2007 Pontiac G6.

It is the V6 3.5L engine with 224 horsepower, 17" Aluminum wheels (it even has those remote starters so you can start it from inside, having that I live in Michigan... I kinda need that in the morning, or i'll freeze to death till I get to school).

With my friends' GM discount I would be looking at $225 / month for a 10,500 mile - 39 month lease (if I recall correctly).

What do you guys think of the car? Is it safe? Were there any recalls on it? Stuff like that... or if you could tell me where I can check stuff about the car in greater detail, I'd be very greatful!

Thanks,

IonutZ~

Most people I know that drive a Pontiac never drive a second Pontiac. Little things go wrong often and the gadgets and plastic stuff always breaks. For a lease it could be good as long as you only keep it for about half your lease and don't go over the miles.

I ask for a G6 whenever I rent a car when I travel. I have driven all over the US in different G6's. I think the car has excellent handling and acceleration. It is suppose to rival Hondas Accords and Nissan Altimas. I like the driving position and I am a big guy weigh in at about 245 lbs.

It is the perfect size car for me and really love it when I can get a fully loaded model with a moon roof. The interior materials are never as nice as your foreign counter parts but you will be able to get this car at a better price point even without your friends discount. Most cars will last you if you maintain them properly.

When the Pulitzer Prize winning writer Dan Neil, of the LA Times, wrote a scathing review of the Pontiac G6 and General Motors management, GM pulled their advertising from the newspaper. That was a $21 million account. They have since started advertising again but it hasn't changed his opinion of the mediocrity of the car. Unfortunately you can't read the article any longer unless you pay for the download. A couple of dollars investment to do that might be worth it before you spend 20 large on this car.

You can also go to www.cars.com and get reviews from 12 other sources. Just be aware cars.com is in the business of selling cars so won't put any seriously negative info on line for you to read.

First thing I would say is 39 mos. and 10,500 miles kinda sucks. I've put 10,000 miles on my car in 10 mos. Second, I would have to say that most pontiacs aren't very well built. I rented one (a G6) and I thought it was like cheap feeling. I'd get a VW or a nissan or something. I drive a Ford taurus, and while it's pretty run of the mill transportation, they are built well, and I bet you could get a lower payment. They sell pretty cheap.

I don't like the car, personally, because I travel on business every week and that is the typical midsize car they provide. So, everyone will likely think you are driving a rental car. I usually upgrade to an SUV, but have driven a G6, and the radio and heat/AC controls are not incredibly intuitive. But, I am sure you would figure it out if it is your car.

However, I am not a big fan of American cars, so I may be biased. Good luck!

I have a '05 and wouldn't recommend a Pontiac to anyone, so many things for wrong with those cars, Ive already had to replace the wheel bearings, and the head gasket. If I were you i'd get something more dependable like a Toyota or Subaru
