People are antigay because they are scared. Also, because the don't understand and don't take the time to understand.

I try to understand why people are anti-gay; and I think it is largely to do with religious belief systems and mis-understanding due to not being educated enough about the issues of what it is to be gay. Alot of people fear the unknown. Even though there are theological issues regarding attitudes towards homosexuality, there are gays who have hold a religious faith. An interesting site for you to go into would be www.lgcm.org.uk
Being gay is not solely about sex! Gays are no different to heterosexuals. We are all human beings with feelings and rights.
I totally agree with the comments made by Herr Doktor and Mark B!!!!
Religion has alot to answer for. It has been the cause of more wars than anything else. The core elements of what the bible teaches is with good intentions. However, The Bible to me is a history book which has many contradictions; and it is open to much mis-interpretation.

To each his own and I should not judge another on their preferences as I would not want them to judge me. I don't agree with being gay. I believe this because of the way I as brought up. I was taught at a very early age the being gay was dirty, bad, and nasty. I know now as an adult that everyone has right to live their life the way they want too and that being gay doesn't mean the person is bad.

The worst homophobes are the religious ones. They quote parts of the bible and ignore other parts that relate to themselves and their own sins. Look at all the deeply religious countries and what do they all have in common? They are the most evil, intolerant places on this planet. These are the same people who make moral judgments on people like myself.
Years ago gays weren’t accepted in society, so what a lot of them done was join the church and became ministers, priests and nuns. That’s why there are such a massive number of closet gays in the church today. There’s probably more gays ministers than gay hairdressers. Sins and abominations in the bible, there are tons of them and ALL Christians commit these themselves.
“Troubled Joe” was trying to be amusing, but he did make one excellent point. He spoke about how two guys having sex repulses him and that’s exactly how a lot of others straights feel. What would happen if the church and society tried to force guys like him to have gay sex, would they be able to make him get sexually turned on by men? Not a snowball in hell’s chance is there. Yet it’s exactly the same thing for gays. How he feels about gay sex is exactly how I feel about sex with a woman. As for bernard96’s comments, guys like that would never think they could have a gay in their own family. That’s exactly what my own father and millions of other fathers thought. He’ll learn, just like millions of other fathers have learned before him. Lack of education and intolerance is the problem. Just read some of the rude answers so far and you’ll see for yourself.

Gay is neither good nor bad. It's just the way some people are. It's a natural variation of the human sexual response and can be found throughout the animal kingdom. Moreover, gay people are no better or worse at having satisfying relationships or being capable, loving parents than straight people. If they are at greater risk for psychopathology (e.g., depression, substance abuse, etc.), this is likely a function of dwelling within an oppressive social context and internalizing experiences of shame and inadequacy.
I believe this way because I am a (gay) social scientist, and science is on my side on this particular debate. If asked, I can find and cite actual evidence to support my position. And we are learning more all the time.
Whereas people who disagree often justify their biases by invoking religion and other irrelevant nonsense that cannot be proven. (Just watch and see what you get for asking this question.)

It's a cultural and/or religious thing. I'm not anti-gay but I'm anti gay marriage and that's for religious reasons.
The reason people think it's bad is because they think it's unnatural. I hate to admit it, but that's how I feel about homosexuality. I can't explain why aside from the religious aspect. It's just how I feel.

Especially from the old school, everyone made fun of the guys who lisped on purpose and swung their tushies all over the place. Not to mention their open flaunting of affection. I don't think girls were as badly thought of, I think is was only the "butch" girls with the mens' flannel shirts, men's work pants, and tried to talk low like a guy who got the "What the hell is this?!?" attention..

fear mostly. It is an historical fact that humans fear and hate that which is different from thier accepted norm. Homosexuality falls into that category. Also, alot of the hatred is spawned by the fear that that person might be gay and therefore lashes out aginst anyone or anything that promotes those inner feelings of self-lothing

While I support gay/lesbian/bisexual life, other people may see it as an "abnormal" behavior. It could be because the bible absolutely hates it, or they're just not used to it. I'd like to know the answer myself, but it all depends on how people believe.
If someone's lifestyle isn't bothering me, then why should I even be bothered?

People are anti-gay because they don't understand, and people are generally afraid of things they don't understand. The more you take the time to learn, the less fear you will have. People are born either gay or straight, it's as simple as that. Nothing to be afraid of or offended by.

Because they are afraid of anything different from what they're used to. They've been brought up to think that it's bad, so that's what is planted in there mind. You can try to say your point of view, but they will most likely be stubborn and not listen. They just don't get that people have the right to be how they want to be. Oh well.
