What is the maximum percentage of your yearly income that you would give to your government in order to help less fortunate people? I am asking because I wonder where the line is drawn between the government being there to allow us to acheive happiness based on the choices we make, and us existing to help government achieve its goals.

It seems to me that social programs would work so much better if we as private groups worked to help the poor(with out the government). For example, if we created a culture that really honored those who donated to the poor(instead of movie stars), we could make it very desirable for people to donate to charity. Additionally, we already see how well groups like the United Way and the Salvation Army work... why not increase the number of those groups that we give money to? Why not take back a good portion of the 27% of your income(what I pay in taxes) and decide personally which charity, social, environmental, or community group it goes to help?

Super Ruper... There are currently many people who willingly donate large sums of money to charitable institutions(Bill Gates). Why would that stop if taxes went away?

Also, when in history weren't most people one or two pay checks away from homelessness. If you think its nice to pay your taxes because it gives you a safety net, why not let me opt out of the taxes and safety net?

First of all, income tax does not go to help one iota with Social Programs, to help anybody. It does not help build roads, it does not help with anything that we think it is supposed to help with.

Income tax, is actually not needed for any of the governments programs or functions. Income tax, goes to pay off the interest that the government "owes" to the PRIVATE Federal reserve Bank, for the money the government was forced to borrow, when the Fed illegally took over the printing of the nation's money, which was also, no longer backed by gold or silver, and is now, virtually worthless.

So, I definitely believe that the so called income tax is both illegal and immoral. But, they have all the power. That is what happens when a group is allowed to take over control of a country's money...they get all the power.

Maybe if that money really did go to do good things, instead of lining the pockets of the politicians and the Globalists, then people who care about the poor, wouldn't mind paying some kind of tax toward helping eradicate poverty!!!!

The realistic answer is sad but true...if you allowed people to keep their money, it would not be contributed to charitable organizations. By legislating these 'donations' through taxes, it ensures that the poor are cared for by the country.

It is also important to remember, especially in these uncertain economic times, that the average American is just one or two paycheques away from homelessness. If we were honest with ourselves and really thought about that statistic, I think we would be more inclined to stop complaining about tax money, and simply be grateful that there is a safety net in place...as we might need it one day.

Good question but here is one back at you. A woman has six children because she knows the more she has the more money she will get. Which child do we let starve? Where do we cut it off. what happens if that child actually comes of age, and meets your child in a back alley somewhere?
