Excellent question. I think the Republicans have bigger problems than this. Their base walked out on them and is still furious. I live in the district formerly represented by R-Nancy Johnson. She lost 44% of her votes from 2004 and the Democrat that defeated her only picked up about 12%. This is representative of the defection of the base from the party.
Guiliani is not pro-gay marriage, but for civil unions. This and his pro-abortion stance will anger many conservatives, but will have little relevance to the job. He is on board with strict constructionist judges like Roberts and Scalia. One more and we will be able to have Roe V Wade overturned and returned to the states as it should. This is Guiliani's position and the correct legal one.
I would not want to be at the point where this comes to fruition. I would bet that a third party conservative would take enough votes to win it for the Democrats.

The people have spoken loud & clear! They are sick of the Republican party, for now.
I don't think that there is any way that a Republican can take the White House, with or without the Christian Conservatives.
Accept it! The Republican Party is out of the election for 2008!

Unlike the Democrat Party, the Conservative party is beyond the racist themes and the group identity politics of Liberalism. The principles are universal, Liberty, Freedom, Rule of Law. Smaller federal government and personnel responsibilities. Hopefully the Republican Party will adopt these principles before they are extinct. The hispanic vote proves that the democrat party is racist. Who was the Republican candidate? Senator McCain, the one who led the charge for amnesty for Hispanics. The very issue all of the racist talking heads in Dc said was needed to secure the "hispanic" vote. Did it help the Big Government, Liberal Republican candidate? No, he even drew less "hispanic" votes than GWB did four years ago. One day MLK's dream will be realized, but not until the racists in the Democrat party leadership are long gone.

Well, after voting for the first time last presidential election (for Bush) I have to admit that I am questioning whether or not I will vote republican again. The absolute only reason I voted republican was because of moral issues. I am going to have to do alot of research this time around and set aside some of those feelings. I will vote for who I think will do best. I wonder what party will win me over....

The Christian Conservatives will support the Republicans, but many will stay home. The Next President will be Democrat.

Bill Clinton was also a believer in the faith based initiatives. In fact, the previous Democratic Presidents had made it possible for certain churches and religious organizations grants and government money. It just was not called faith based.
Then they got brain-washed by Ronald Wilson Reagan, and the religious right. Taxes were reduced (but not that much) and the amount you could give as tax deductible to tax deductible organizations. There was actually less donations, especially to religious organizations, for the first six years of the Reagan Administration.

Why would Christians vote for republicans to begin with? Every single thing they are taught about in their church goes against what Republicans stand for. Helping the rich stay richer, helping the large corporations rip off the little guy, I highly doubt Christians would support anything like that. If they did, or if they do, they should stick their foot in their mouths for doing so.

If the Republicans win this next election with any kind of ideology that Bush has introduced.. I will honest to God move out of this country. If they can show us something new.. something not based on egotism and stupidity.. fine.. If not...I hope they crash and burn and the Dems have the biggest landslide in history. They let Bush do what he has done.. now hopefully they will pay.. as this country and it's people have payed.

Yes they actually can.....but only if they do things right, and candidates needs to stay away from bush.....many ppl even in his own party are not at all happy with him lately. Just like Gore tried to keep Clinton away from him and his campaign several years ago....ppl were VERY unhappy as well with Clinton, and did not want him anywhere around them during the political season.
