I just want to congratulate you on your first step to be an entrepeneur, and that is deciding to do it. Next, you will have to do a lot of research. To open a coffee shop you are going to need quite a few things. First is you need to scope out a property, that was or would be easily converted to a coffee shop. To do this you can go to www.loopnet.com or www.bizbuysell.com to locate a property you would be interested in. Next you would want to write up a business plan in case you don't have any startup capital. THIS REQUIRES A LOT OF RESEARCH. That way you can get investors or a loan from the bank. Once you have the money and the property, you're going to need your licences. This includes a business licence, EIN for hiring employees and a Federal Tax ID. Also you're going to need redesign and furnish your property so that you will be open for business. For further information i would go to www.sba.gov

Try the Coffee Forums for information about starting and running a coffee shop.

You will find quite a few threads over there about what to consider when starting a coffee shop. You also can seek help from other forum members, many of whom are experienced coffee shop owners.

Good luck in your quest.

Write up a solid business plan (I used www.jian.com software) then once your business plan is complete you will have done enough research to ensure your success. I used it to start my business handling business loans, equipment leasing, and credit card processing. Nearly four years later thanks to that business plan I am not only still in business but growing each year.
