There have been a lot of bad plays written... you would have to have a tournament to truly decide the victor.

I am decidedly turned off by "Everyman" which was a play written in the middle ages by the Catholic Church with the intention of manipulating the audience to be more pious. It has no redeeming qualities.

As for those who hate Shakespeare... you probably read it too young or don't understand that they all involve blood, sex and ghosts... not nearly as pretentious as some would like you to believe it is.

I don't know but I saw it in 1994 at the Mark Taper Forum. Everybody was dressed in black, no sets (I didn't mind that modern stuff!) and Act one went on for about two hours with one angry guy pacing in the front holding up a pencil like a piece of steel and sayng "Someday, Walter, you may NEED a screwdriver!" That was the only line. We left at the break. Never done that before or since and I've seen a lot of plays.

In college a million years ago I was in a musical written by some local people called "PROMOTION". It was HORRIBLE! Even though I had a "good" part, it should never have been performed. UGH!!! I felt really sorry for the audience who actually paid money to see it. It was that bad.

The second play I ever wrote. The first was accepted very well by everyone including a newspaper critic. I immediately wrote the second with an ego as big as Texas. It never even got by the first reading--even I held my nose so I wouldn't be nauseated.
