Wow...some really great answers here so far. I'm re-reading (for about the 8th time) "A River Runs Through It" by Norman Maclean. If you thought the movie was good, the book will blow you away. One of the great books of American literature that is so often overlooked.

I like a lot of the Star Trek novels, particularly by Peter David. Especially the New Frontier series. My favorite book is the Bible, which reads different every time.(I find something I didn't before). I also like A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens and mysteries, like Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie. However, there's a book I've been reading called The Ghost of the Cavalier which is really good. I highly recommend that one.

Twilight and New Moon by Stephenie Meyer are the best books in the world! I have read them 6 times each! (Although I rebuff any comment about me being obsessed.) MTV is supposed to be making the Twilight series into movies and there are going to be 5 books.

The main idea of the books is that a girl named Isabella Swan moves to a tiny wet town in Washington, where she meets the Cullens. They are a family of vampires and the boyish bronze-haired beautiful Edward takes a fancy to her. The only catch is that her blood is the most appetizing that he has smelled in 80 years. Now the couple must deal with the fact that they love each other, but one of them could kill the other in a matter of seconds.

I like the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. It includes 11 books so far, in addition to a Prequel. The first book in the series is The Eye of the World. Robert Jordan has a large following, and there are a lot of websites devoted to the WOT series.

It is a fantasy series / somewhat like a long, American version of Lord of the Rings.

I usually read science fiction, but just recently have been reading some historical mysteries. Ellis Peters wrote short murder mysteries about the monk Brother Cadfael set in England in the 1100's. BBC made these into a miniseries, starring Derek Jacobi back in the 90's ( I think).

I'm a Scifi reader, too. I also like Autobiographies.

Try the Thomas Covenant books by Stephen R. Donaldson.

I've just discovered Dan Simmons' SciFi books that start with Hyperion - really smart well written books.

The best autobiograhy I've ever read is The Lemon Jelly Cake. I read it in high school so try a library if you want to look for it.

The first SciFi book I ever read was Ringworld by Larry Niven. It got me started and I'm still going. Actually, my friend was reading it and one of the characters (the feline/man) reminded her of my cat physically so she gave it to me to read. Then we shared the Covenant books. Now I've got some of my family reading these books, too.
