Make sure the cereal you're making for him is very runny... and let him try sucking it off a spoon.
Also... don't make such a big deal about "offering" it to him.. just.. make it a part of life... offer him a bite of this or that, here and there.. I can promise you, the more you make an issue of it.. the more you set him in his high chair, bib on, food prepared just so... the more he's going to dig in an refuse to enjoy eating.

Honestly not every child is ready at 6 months, in fact the longer you wait the better. You lower the risk of obesity later in life, allergies, digestion problems. Humans are really not ready to eat solids until they can safely chew food and not choke. That's why we aren't born with teeth. A child under 12 months should just be experimenting with food.
Wait a few weeks (or months) and try again, no rush! They should still be getting all nutrients from breast milk or formula until 12 months. Best of luck!

Give it time. Babies can sustain themselves with the breastmilk or formula. Not all babies develop a love for food right away. This is all new to them. Be patient, do not act frustrated and make it light and fun so he will associate eating time being pleasant.
You should only be introducing one food every 3-4 days to watch for a possible allergic reaction. Rice cereal would be the least allergic of the baby cereals. Try the banana flavored one, or mix it with applesauce.
I have several friends in my mommy group that couldnt get their babies to eat until close to their 1st birthday. I would worry about it for now, give him some time and it will work itself out.
Good Luck!

You could try offering the solids before the bottle. If he's hungry, he'll eat. Adding sugar wouldn't be good, though, because then that leads to bad eating habits. My daughter is 6 years old, and we never made food an issue. If she was hungry, she ate. A baby won't starve itself. He may just not be quite ready for the solids yet. As long as he's gaining, not losing weight, he's probably fine. Or you could call his pediatrician's office and ask their advice. They may have some suggestions you haven't thought of.

**And I have to say I'm APPALLED at the people suggesting that you add sugar to the food or give him ice cream. That is horrible. A baby's digestive system is not ready for that, and you'd just be setting him up for a lifetime of thinking food has to doused in sugar to be good. His attitudes toward food and his tastes are being developed from the very first bite he takes. He will learn to appreciate what you give him. Make it good for him too.

No worries he'll eat it takes about a week to a week and a half with each food for baby to get use to it. Start with a tablespoon of rice mixed with formula, then a week of oatmeal mixed with formula, then a week of barley mixed with formula and a week with each veggie with one of the cereal, and the same with fruit. We had the same trouble but if our son. Now he loves everything. We started with rice and apples.

He doesn't need solids at 6.5 months. Log on to the academy of pediatrics at http://www.aap.org and read about it. When his body needs more calories and nutrients than breastmilk/formula can provide, he will become interested in solids.

I don't get how a kid can "refuse" food. I'm on my 7th baby and it has never happened and I wouldn't allow it to. 1) If he won't open his mouth, pinch his nostrils closed till he does, and pop the food in. 2) if he spits it, give his nose a HARD pinch. He'll soon stop that nonsense. 3) if he doesn't spit it but refuses to swallow, wash it down with a sip of juice or formula from the cup or bottle. Stick the nipple in there right after you put the bite in and the food will get swallowed. It won't be more than a week before he starts eating normally, willingly. One more thing: there is no crime in making the food a little tastier. You could sprinkle a very small dusting of cinnamon sugar on his cereal; you can stir a tiny bit of salt into the veggies, etc. I have also found that making sure things like cereal and veggies are WARM helps a lot.
Good luck!

He may not be ready yet. I did rice ceral in a bottle with lots of breast milk first (Followed directions on the side) then i slowly introduced her to food. I made all of her food and have her eat when we do...it seems to help.
