Ew! I just got honked at for the first time today, pulling out of my friend's driveway. I swear I checked both sides, and all around because just this morning when I went to pick her up, I almost hit her neighbor's parked car-- I was being EXTRA careful, I'm not even kidding. Out of nowhere this SUV comes down the hilside and honks the heII out of its horn at me! Gross, I hated it! My friend said she was yelling at me to stop, but I swear I didn't see anything and I was checking so well! But whatever, anyway, same question; I don't like honking at people because I've heard of stories where they get PO'd. I did get PO'd a little at that SUV who just honked at me for like freaking ever--it wasn't just like a loud honk, it was a loud and LONG one--longer than it should have been, and I hated it. Any opinions on the matter? Thanks.

I sometimes give pedestrians one or two short friendly honks to let them know that I plan to go ahead or make a turn, especially a right one. I do not want them walking in front of me and getting hit. I try to wave, smile or nod at them to let them know that I am not angry at them and that they are not doing anything wrong.

Sometimes I have been honked at in a hostile manner, mainly by drivers who are in too big a hurry and wish to travel the full speed limit. I sometimes get annoyed but generally forget about it soon.

Once in a while I honk furiously at drivers, if I feel they are being unreasonably reckless or putting me and others in danger.

Sometimes I honk at people to give them the thumbs up, if they are campaigning or advertising for a cause that does not offend.

Generally, I do not like to honk at people but feel that I have to for safety reasons.

People usually honk because they want you to know that they are there. Although you were being extra careful you did admit that "out of nowhere" the SUV came. You obviously did not see the car coming which is why they honked it you, to prevent an accident. Now, the reason the honk was long and loud was because you either scared the crap out of them or they were really mad and wanted to make sure you knew it. Hope this helps, drive safe.

I get embarrassed when people honk at me.
I always thought that a horn was to be used as a warning.
Like don't back up I am driving by right now, or Look out, it is so icy I can't stop for this stop sign ,.
Too many people use it as an expression of their rage at you.
They are probably too full of anger to be safe behind the wheel and they should go home.

yeah if someone is about to hit me I have honked before. Its better to swerve to avoid the accident rather than just honking though. I rarely ever honk at someone and its to get there attention when i do. Its usually followed by the flipping of my middle finger :) Have a nice day!

Oh yeah, I have had others honk at me when I wanted to make a right turn and I was waiting until it was clear and the driver behind me was sooooo impatient. I really got pissed. I have honked only when someone was backing up and almost hit me then of course you have to. Other wise I try not to honk it is very easy to get someone really wound up. It kind of ruins your day doesn't it?

I hate when people honk! How about when people honk at there friends when they see them? It is so annoying and not what the horn is for! Have you ever been listening to the radio in your car and had one of those commercials come on that has a horn honk or siren sound. It happens and it startles me and my heart races.

I don't honk, unless there's a chance someone will hit me, and people don't usually honk at me. There's a huge difference when you live in Maine as opposed to other cities. It's so quiet on the roads!

I get honked at sometimes. I rarely honk, unless someone is about to hit me. I usually just flip people off. I use to moon them, but that is sometimes difficult when you are driving, talking on the phone, and messing with the radio!

I only honk at someone if they cut me off real close, or if there is a really hot girl, but just a quick little honk, just to say hey
