I am so sick of people making fun of Tijuana that is so poor or dirty or whatever, or that you should not go to the dentist there, like if there weren't any highly educated professionals there. Doesn't people realize that just like any city or country in the world it has it's nice and ugly areas. Tijuana is huge, there are so many new developments that if you are not from around you don't now were to go. I lived almost all my life there and I can say LA is not as pretty either. Tijuana has incredibly beautiful neighborhoods just like San Marino Ca or Beverly Hills. People educated in foreign countries.Great restaurants, beautiful private schools. Why are people so narrow minded and believe any stereotype they hear.

You are so right. It's a shame that tourists don't get off the main street and see the rest of Tijuana. I have met wonderful people there, eaten in terrific restaurants, and seen very upscale neighborhoods, as well as poorer areas.
One thing I don't understand is why English speakers insist on putting an extra "A" in Tijuana, making it Tia-juana. I can understand not knowing how to pronounce a Spanish word, but not adding extra letters. Oh, well.

Just another example of Mexico bashing. I live in La Mision and seldom go to Tijuana because of the traffic,(older person, failing eyesight). My younger friends have friends and family in nicer neighborhoods and also go to concerts and art exhibitions...very stylish people some of whom you'd see in New York or Paris. I object to calling Tijuana, TJ, no accounting for taste. Its a great city, probably will be one of the biggest in western America in the next fifty years.

i totally agree with you...i guess people think its ugly because they only go there to get drunk and party and they actually dont go any further in then la zona norte..but i agree with you there are so many pretty places in tijuana.
