Are you starting to get annoyed with the improper spelling and grammar on Yahoo Answers? The little things I am fine with. This is because people simply do not have time. However, when people have more misspelled words than spelled words, it gets annoying. Just yesterday, I came across a question that seemed like a good one, and I wanted to answer it. However, there were so many misspelled words and grammar mistakes, that I was debating between what exactly the question was asking. When there are questions with poor spelling and grammar, that I cannot understand, I let them know. If somebody else has already said this, I compliment them on their answer. It is not asking a lot to make sure that you spell words correctly as you go along. In fact, it is not even too much to ask to proofread your words. No, I'm not a neat freak, English teacher, or person with OCD. I just like to be able to read the question. Let me know if I made a single mistake with spelling or grammar. I want opinions.

OCD, for those who do not know, is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. This is a disease where people who have it have to have everything orderly, and sometimes they have weird habits. For example, after they put their shirt on in the morning, they must take it off and put it back on.

Also, I don't care about unmistakeable misspellings. I make those all of the time. There probably are a few here. I just don't like it when I cannot understand the question.

My spelling is fine, my grammar is deplorable.
Most of the participants use text instead of English or proper spelling and grammar. Part of the community guidelines is to use both in a proper manner. Obviously, Yahoo! doesn't have either of these as part of the abuse system.
I'm sorry I am unable to check your grammar, as I have said, mine is deplorable. I am well past 65, and have a difficult time understanding some of the questions the way they have been written.
You ask for opinion and this is mine.

You are absolutely right.
Some of the spellings in YA questions and also in answers, are deplorable, and give me the shivers. Not that my English is good, or grammar and punctuation are perfect, but I am totally at a loss to understand why people don't use the spell-check facility provided for answers and questions.
We all make mistakes, and it is not fair to pinpoint them when we come across them.
I too had the same difficulty like you, in answering what I felt were good questions (despite the poor spelling), but had to stop the attempts because the spellings created a doubt as to what the asker really wants to know. Surely those who ask questions would realize that lesser the spelling mistakes, the better would be chances of drawing more responses.
This forum attracts questions and answers from all over the world. The standards of English and its usage in some countries is not up to the level one would expect from people whose 'mother tongue' is English. One can understand the spelling mistakes in their writing. However, what is sad is that even those who speak only English and don't know any other language, are careless in their spelling.

1- You could have defined OCD. I don't know what that is.

2- The only time I have any problems is when I cannot extract any meaning whatsoever. That only happens occasionally.

3- Some words are unmistakable no matter how badly they are misspelled. Take "environment" for example. Here is a short list of misspellings.

...where you know exactly what the intention is. This type of thing should not pose a problem for anyone.

4- The person above who reference the Prince lyric sheet has a point. The flow of one's reading becomes quite stilted when he has to stop and solve a cute little puzzle at nearly every word.

Just thoughts...

I so totally agree with you.It is a shame no one takes much pride any more. It does not only happen here. I see signs written almost every day with misspellings and incorrect grammar. It actually drives me nuts trying to figure out what these businesses are trying to say, just recently read a sign posted on a hair salon window. " We beed open Sundays now". What does that actually mean ? Anyway I know I am going off on a tangent, (did not mean to) Kudos!, to you that you let the writers know what is wrong with their sentences, at least you are taking the time to correct them.

I don't care. I'm not that old, but I already see a generation gap. I'm not the text message crowd, altho my sister's age group and down are.

This isn't a term paper to be turned in, so I don't care for the most part. If they're not from an English speaking country, I also give them some slack.

However, I do care when someone is asking about their chances of getting into a top school like Harvard. If they sound like an idiot here, they likely sounded like an idiot somewhere in their application to Harvard. Or, they're likely just not cut out for a top level school.

You are correct. I am in an older age bracket and know just what you mean.

I have proofread your entry.
You could leave out the word 'between'.
'I let them know' would be better as 'I let the writer know'.

I am a bit of a nit-picker when it comes to the finer points of grammar. I can't help myself.

This is fascinating. I simply requested a an identical query a couple of days in the past. An blunders or two is appropriate, but if it will get to the factor that you don't have any suggestion what's being requested, then it is terrible. Simple phrases are misspelled and I take a appear on the keyboard to look if it used to be only a typing blunders. It is not. Letters are not any wherein close every different. Spell assess exists, however I do not believe spell assess might decipher the phrases I have obvious on right here. I noticed any one spell will have to like this(shood). It's humorous, however within the equal feel it is vitally unhappy. Internet lingo is utterly special. It is virtually shorthand. People wherein English is a moment language write bigger than probably the most sh.. I've obvious on right here. It's particularly pathetic. I have an understanding of that now not all people has the equal schooling degree, but when you're in university now, there's no purpose why you should not be in a position to spell functional phrases effectively. Grammar isn't as giant an hassle with me as spelling is. If you'll learn, you'll get beyond grammar mistakes.

Sure I notice grammar & spelling mistakes but that isn't going to stop me from answering.

When answering a question, it's rude to correct or point out someone's mistakes. Everyone else can see the mistakes (we aren't stupid)...there's no point rubbing it in!

I actually just ran across a question like that. I tried really hard to interpret the question, but gave up. I'm not perfect with my grammer, but I try.
