Honestly, it is pretty coincidental. Most TV shows work on the same format. For an hour long show most shows aim for the actual program to run for a total of around 43.5 minutes. The format is broken into multiple segments: Segment 1 (teaser), then acts 1-5. Since a lot of scripts are written with a fairly similar number of scenes, the program segments end up balancing out to roughly the same length from show to show. If they don't, most likely the show has an odd feeling to it, somewhat unbalanced. More often than not a network will not approve of an off balance feeling show and it will be sent back for re-edits. So, in the end, you have a lot of the shows running at the same pace.

How did you know what I say every night??
I channel hop, then get absorbed in another prog. or give up and go to bed.
Only occasionally are there interesting /fun commercials but I'm mystified by how brain-dead people become in front of TV and watch SAME OL' BOOOOOOring commercials every night over and over - really annoys me the way we are forced into either watching them or giving up on TV for evening - advertisers loss not gain in the end if you ask me which you did - ta!

I've noticed that, but you can't channel-hop when ALL the channels are showing ads, cos if they're ALL showing ads, there's NOTHING to watch. The other annoying thing I've noticed is that they're all the SAME ads in the SAME order on ALL channels.

in hopes you'll just get mad and go back to your channel. I agree commercials are annoying... They should really limit it to 1 or 2 during each break and I think it would keep people tuned to their station longer. Sometimes I'll be watching commercials so long I'll forget what the hell I was watching in the first place.

I don't know, but that drives me up the *wall*, man. You think all the network execs get together and say "okay, we're going to all have commercials at 8:15, 8:23, and 8:30 for Tuesday, sound good?" Meh.
