A good brush for mascara makes a massive difference. I find the curved brushes that have smaller bristles towards the end of the bursh far more effective.
When applying use a hand mirror & hold it in a position where you need to look down to see your eyes. Use a gentle sweeping movement to apply the mascara.Gently & slowly blink your lashes through the bristles will also help to curl them & make you eyes look more open.
Call into some department stores & ask for samples to try out different mascaras (I have wasted so much money buying make up that is not suitable)
Hope my mascara application makes sense. Kinda hard to put into words.
Good Luck.

Try some bronzer. Try some false lashes for fun. Fan out your eyeliner. Try some different eye shadow colors. Got to a local makeup counter at your mall and get a makeover for some more ideas.

try using liquid eyeliner on the top of your eye lid, make it look kind of like cat eyes, that look is really cute, I usually do my make up like that and I get a lot of compliments, or maybe you should just go natural.
