I know that many religious people take solace in the idea heaven after death . And even those who don't neccessarily believe in heaven but believe there's *something* and not just nothing do too. Well, how do people like me who are agnostic deal with this ? I don't believe in nothing, but not something either. I get a little anxious when just thinking about there could be nothing I don't see how any person can deal with believing there's nothing at all afterwards and not become extremely bothered. Thoughts? And no preachy stuff either please.

Existance is fleating, but you will always have existed. Life is complicated enough without worrying about the afterlife. I am not dead so I am going to focas on making my life worth while to me. I only have a limited time to make my life what I want. In death I have eternity to figure it out (if there is something after life other than death). If not then I will not have to worry about it will I? I will not be able to worry. I just find death faiding to nothing is such an eligantly simple and pieceful way to go. It is the ultimit in conclusions.

That's rough. I happen to believe in eternal life. I can understand the anxious feeling though because I felt the same way before I found the truth. The best encouragement I can offer is that everything we do has a purpose - nothing is lost or waisted. Everything you do will be remembered by someone in your life whether family, friend or stranger. Your life has an impact on others and that influence will live on. You seem wise enough to know that this world is not all there is to our life...we are spiritual beings. A good question to explore might be - Is there anything that can kill our spiritual being?

Agnostic comes from the Latin word agnosco and literally means "to not know." Basically, by stating your agnosticism you're saying "I don't know exactly what happens when you die but I don't feel there is enough evidence to say decidedly among the religions & theories that are out there what happens." Some agnostics reject the idea of God altogether while others will say something along the lines of "I'm not refuting the existence of God but I don't think there's enough proof." Your critical mind requires further evidence. For me, I don't believe in nothing necessarily but I don't say it's impossible that the end of life is just nothing. I think human beings don't have the capacity to know what happens after death...atleast yet.

Hope that helps!

How do i deal with reality?

Have you ever actually been to that place? How do you reconcile the xth version of the afterlife with different, conflicting versions of other religions? I suppose you believe your religion is the only real, True Religion. Sure. Just like all the others do too.

Fact: the human race has been around for hundreds of thousands of years.

Fact: the concepts of an afterlife, of gods, spirits, etc. have only been around for a few millenia.

Fact: these concepts were invented and promulgated by ignorant barbarians as an attempt to explain the world around them, before there was a such thing as science or epistemology.

Fact: most of the books of the bible were written by people who were never there, as second- or third-hand accounts decades or even centuries after the events they claim to tell about.

Fact: the books of the bible have been heavily edited over the centuries, with passages or even whole books being re-written or omitted to fit the theological and political climates of the time.

Fact: the books of the bible have also been subject to extensive errors, misinterpretations, and differences of opinion in interpretation as they are translated from one language to another and from that to yet another language.

Knowing all this, how can yours or ANY religion be viewed as anything BUT the invention of men? I know this may not be what you want to hear, and I doubt I'll do much harm to your faith; faith is remarkably impervious to reason. But we atheists are nothing like what the church leaders are fond of charicaturing us as. We are freethinking individuals who are able to see the Big Picture without the blinders of religion. We do not live in despair, quite the contrary; freethought is incredibly refreshing, liberating, and empowering.

We are not nihilists, but lovers of life who see it as all the more precious because there's no eternal afterlife. We do not need the bribe of heaven or the threat of hell to be good people, we believe in being good for its own sake. Through science and reason, we know more about the true nature of the world we live in than your religion could ever hope to offer.

I'd ask you to give freethought a try, but I realize that's probably asking too much for a True Believer. So I'll only ask that you consider learning more about atheists and atheism, and setting aside any preconceived notions you may have about them--because those notions are almost certainly wrong.

We are not your enemy. Our quarrel is with irrationality, wishful thinking, superstitions, intellectual dishonesty, and all other forms of thinking that keep mankind mired in darkness, ignorance and hate.

Nope, no longer an Empty promise, Now We do (maximum individuals) have self assurance that worldwide warming is happening, and that we human beings are the clarification for it, and we agree that it rather is to offer up, on the different hand all of us be attentive to that God will make all issues new Rev 21:a million and that i observed a clean heaven and a clean earth: for the 1st heaven and the 1st earth have been kicked the bucket; and there replaced into not extra sea.

As an agnostic I tend to think that its the end. The end of this state of being anyway. I live each day ..... I tell my kids and my wife everyday how much I love them and I know that if I wake up in the morning I will get another chance to love and be loved. To me it doesnt matter what comes next....I want to enjoy what I have now.

Well are you saying that you are bothered at the fact you don't believe?

a plant lives and dies. a bug lives and dies. people live then die.

Have you ever heard that to every beginning there is an end?

What is so hard in accepting that life is over when you die?

I have to tell you that I do believe..... but at the same time I understand why some people don't.

What is life? Is the question that must be answered first. I happen to believe that awareness is the essence of life. And that awareness is a conversation our body has within and about itself, including its relationship to the externals to the body (sensory preception). When we die, the conversation stops and we are no longer aware.

you deal with the beleif that your life is worthy of existing, or you would not be here, that life is a joyous thing, even when things are not so joyous, it is the reality that this is apart of being human, no heaven or hell , just the joy of NOW... and the appreciation that you are lucky just to be alive..... not becasue some god wants you to be here... because you are here cause you are here....
