New pentagon report proves what people like you have been saying for years that Bush and Cheney lied. Did the soldiers die for nothing? No, they died fulfilling their assigned duties and that for a soldier is a noble task even if the orders come from a selfish administration. I wish everyone who lost a soldier strength and the rest of us courage to end this war. By the way we are not fighting Jihad in any way if the lead Jihadist roams free Ben Bin Forgotten. Right-wing propaganda does not equate to a soldiers life, wise up and walk away from the Kool-aid fountain.

Certainly. They definitely didn't die to "protect my freedom" or any of that jingoistic propaganda. Saddam Hussein and his non-existent WMD's certainly weren't pointed at Washington or America, nor were they ever. There is pretty strong intelligence that suggests Al-Qaeda had NO relationship with Saddam Hussein and in fact, Bin Laden thought Hussein was going the wrong way with his government because it was *secular*. Now that there isn't any domestic order in Iraq is an Al-Qaeda backed insurgency in Iraq that has caused a civil war and cost the lives of of upwards of 100,000 Iraqis and some 3,000 American soldiers. You tell us what they died for. What is this freedom of ours that they are defending and how is it been helped by the troops whose mission actually BROUGHT terrorism into Iraq? Prior to our meddling, Saddam actually had control over the borders and Iran and Syria weren't allowed to run wild and do as they pleased.
Realistically? The soldiers died for promises of a better life with a nice military paid for college education or "job training" or whatever they sell you. They died for a poorly articulated and poorly thought out idea that they were "defending our country" by being in another crappy 3rd world nation posing no real threat to American democracy or interests (thank you Vietnam, Korea, Somalia, Kosovo, and Iraq).
I'm sure there will be people on here talking about how they died for our freedom. Ask yourself this. With domestic wiretapping, manipulated intelligence, a shady Surpreme Court decision (Bush V. Gore), and the executive seizing unprecedented power...do YOU feel more or less free?
(p.s) = Thanks Bert!

Ya they did now we have that stupid war going on for nothing with soldiers dying all over. Also they was no reason for Bush and Cheney to start it. All Iraq did to bush was try to choke his father but right now the us soldiers should be fighting Afghanistan not Iraq.

Everybody lied. They could not find any reason to attack Iraq. Saddam was not a problem. If he would have been a problem then US could have easily killed him or hired somebody to kill him. The problem was Oil and the wealth of Middle East. So they put up a lie. Now they are encouraging civil war so they can stay longer in Iraq.

Do you mean if the war in Iraq is a failure then did they die for a failure?
Dying is a very personal thing, if the cause was a failure they still gave their lives for law and order. If it was a failure the leadership would be responsible for their deaths, how can we deny those who made the decision this?
But they died in the service of their country for higher principles. If the leadership deceived them it does not detract from their sacrifice.

Hi, Chi!
I don't think "lied" is the right term. International intel said that he had WMDs, Putin was certain, Blair was certain, Howard was certain...
Did you see the blog entry William Arkin wrote for the Washington Post? It seems a lot of the soldiers believe in what they are risking their lives for. Maybe I'm being overly simplistic, but that's good enough for me.

It can't even be said they died for oil.
Its pitiful and depressing that we sent out men and women over there. If the Iraqis hated Saddam that bad, they could have shot him on the streets, they all have guns that they shot into the air after 9/11 to celebrate the Muslim 'victory'. They can't be afraid of dying in the attempt, surely one suicide bomber would have wanted to help his tortured countrymen. Now three thousand more of our best are dead and still people have the nerve to defend Bush and company.

American soldiers never die for nothing. They are given orders and they follow those orders. Often they are put in positions requiring the utmost in bravery and Americans come through.
The cause may be cockamamie but our soldiers, sailors and air force personnel are not. God bless them all.

They died so that George Bush can say he was a war leader.
That's the sad part. A coward using brave soldiers to boost his own cowardly prestige.

US soldiers NEVER die for nothing!
Whether they died at the hands of Bush's lies or not, they were still bravely protecting us..
Parents of dead soldiers may view this differently, though.
