I'm a musician, and a junior in high school. I'm planning on graduating early this year and then taking a year off to work on my music career before going to college. What are some options for me for once I do go to school (if I end up going). A friend of mine mentioned something about getting admitted early, and then being able to go to school there later--do you know what that's called and how I could find out what schools do that? When would be the best time, then, to apply? I'm thinking soon, since I'm still in school now and have teachers to write recommendations, etc.

If you're thinking about graduating early but would like to go to college later, make sure that you have more than enough credits and you've taken enough courses to make yourself competitive for school. There's a reason high school is usually four years, and if taking off early severly limits your options, stay in school. Your education is paid by the state, and if there's anything you can do in high school that can help you farther down the road, take advantage of it, it's free.

And yes, if you're hoping to do deferred admission, then you have to apply while in school and then let the schools you're applying to know once you've been accepted that you'd like to do deferred admission.

It's called deferred admissions and the link below describes it. There's an old saying -- education is wasted on youth. It's a generalization, but there may be some truth in it. Go to school when you think you're ready -- not before.
