i personally thought they were a waste of time and the constant counting my husband did during contractions was annoying after a bit...if i had to do it again i would have skipped lamaze and taken a breastfeeding class and even a parenting class

I have mixed feelings about the class I took. It helped me understand what would happen when I went into labor. But it didn't do anything for me when it came time to deliver. I couldn't really remember any of the breathing and relaxation exercises. It didn't really matter. The nurse and OB Tech had done it a million times before.
I also thought it was pointless because the instructor told us that it was fairly uncommon for water to break naturally. She focused on ways that we could relieve the pain and pass the time while we were in the early stages of labor. Guess what? Mine did. Everything I learned about eating light meals and walking the hallway did not apply.

Bradely is better....it's a more natural and real way of going through labor. I used it with both of my kids (born at a birthing center, no drugs, with midwives in attendance) and it was VERY helpful. I always tell women to skip Lamaze and take a Bradley Method class.

I took childbirth classes, so I knew what to expect when the time came. Or so I thought. The labor nurse contradicted some of the things I learned -- like how to breathe. And I was told I would get ice chips, which were refused when I was in labor. I was also refused any drugs, and in class they told me I could get an epidural/saddle block, etc. --basically whatever I needed. Nope - they wouldn't give me so much as an aspirin to deliver my baby. I wasn't prepared for natural childbirth! It was a horrible experience. That's why I never went through it again.

I did not take Lamaze classes for my first child and I did just fine. I do sometimes wish I had taken it. I sometimes feel like I missed something.

i took the lamaze class and when i went to deliver my little girl, i forgot about EVERYTHING. but, i'm not saying you will. you may just be able to concentrate on what you were taught. everyone is different! take it and maybe some other childbirth classes. use which ever is best for you! good luck!

I took a child birth class. I dont know if I learned a great deal from it but it was fun to get a night out with the hubby, just us where we were doing something truely together. I was thankful for that. I did learn some good breathing techniques

They used to be required, yes they help. Childbirth classes prepare you for what will happen so its not a big mystery and so people will stop asking ignorant questions on here. You will learn about breathing techniques, how to stay calm until its time to go to the hospital, what kinds of pain killers are available to you and how they are administered, and much more.

Yes... it helps!!! Maybe a prenatal class would be a more broad topic class.
It's beneficial to both you and your birth coach/partner. Breathing is so important when you're in labour... if done properly it can really help you stay calm and focused.
They give you lots of other information too... like pain management options, what to expect if you need to have a c-section, breastfeeding, etc.
Highly recommended!!

not in any respect Used Lamaze because my midwife in basic terms had her personal childbirth practise. you will get something out of them. also discover your own way of respiration once you're in not uncomplicated artwork. I doubt if i'd have remembered "how" to respire from a type! maximum significant element in not uncomplicated artwork isn't to carry your breath yet breathe via the contractions. sluggish, even respiration is staggering and targeted on that quite than the discomfort is what helps get you via contractions. I also stumbled on that exhaling even as pushing became extra effective for me than holding my breath may were. I had a healthcare professional tell me to "carry your breath and undergo down" even as i became having my third daughter and that i screamed at her that i does not! My midwife continuously reported that's not in any respect an exceptionally good concept. i found she became acceptable. wish you get something out of it! staggering desires!
