It shouldn't do. It is the attitude of people to get a day off work whenever they can. I believe the schools closing down was disgusting. I drove to the Midlands and there was nothing on the road - no snow and few cars. It doesn't grind to a halt - people shout and cheer and go and have a jolly. It seems ridiculous that the schools close because of the risk of slipping on a pavement compared with the risks of sledging

Of course this country grinds to a halt when we get bad weather.

Other countries that get it all the time are normally well prepared and yet the UK is always in a dilema.

The gritters refuse to grit our roads and will only do the main roads which is dispicable given how much taxes we pay. Its the services we pay for that let us down because we dont get a service. Several years ago the chelmsford gritting station brought the m11, 414 and part m25 to a stand still because it didnt grit the roads just to save money. People were crashing, lorries turned over on the 414, old people got stranded in their cars and all because the gritters didnt do their job. And now they do thier job, they still only grit main roads and not the roads that are so dangerous in villages.

What the heck do we pay our road and house tax for?

no , the country doesn't exactly grind to a halt, but for a modern european nation we somehow dont react to weather which is now forecasted days in advance ? we are not scandanavia , so in reality we should handle a couple of inches ?
