Aren't allies supposed to be friends?

I'm alluding to the fact that many of the problems that exist in the middle east due to the demise of the British Empire. And that many of those British are now calling our pilots "murderers" due to a friendly fire accident.
I'm alluding to the fact that the French warned us, and were insulted by us for it, that invading Iraq would be a huge mistake.

Nobody is a friend in the international world. Its about interests. Right now US and Britain have similar interests so Britain is acting like a friend. When there will be any conflict of interest they won't be.

The French are great allies when they need someone to pull their chestnuts out of the fire (WW I, WW II). At least when they pulled out of NATO in the early 60's and told all the US forces to leave their country, they didn't demand we also take along the thousands of American GI's buried there.

Day in, day out, the British are the best allies our country has ever had. The Canadians aren't too bad, either.

I'm not sure what you are alluding to but there is little question that the British are our strongest Allies. They have been ever since the Revolutionary War concluded.

I'd say the both of them represent two seperate sides of the friendship coin, in a way. They really are both our friends, even if they sometimes say or do things that irritate us. I'm sure it's the same for them, as well.
