It depends on how far along you are. My doctor did an ultrasound on me when I was approx. 6 weeks, and according to the ultrasound, I was a couple days earlier than that. He said that in that case, since it was so early in the pregnancy, pretty much all babies at that point are the same size, so ultrasound is more accurate. It put me back about 3 days - I'm due now July 19 instead of July 16. Later on as the baby is growing more, your LMP will be more accurate because all babies grow at different rates.

LMP. That is the guarenteed beginning of your 40 weeks. An ultrasound gives you the average age that most babies are that particular size but not all babies are the same. A perfectly healthy full term 5 lbs baby will measure younger than a baby born at 8 lbs but it doesn't mean that they pregnancy was different length

If you know the date and the days of your cycle (ie: 28 days) than LMP. ultrasound only measures the baby and gives an approximate length of pregnancy.

LMP *if* you know your cycle. It is very easy to make errors measuring on an ultrasound.
