Why does every online website, aka: mapquest & map24.com all suggest a route from starting from Toronto and then going all the friggin way to Detriot, then south?

Why can't I find a route that crosses near say Buffalo and then head south. It seems a hell of a lot more logical to go through the state of NY from Toronto instead of going all the way to Detriot as suggested by these web-sites.

Hopefully it's not just because of the I-75 route being so common and straightforward that people would drive an extra 2-4 hours on what is already a long drive.

Mapquest.com says go through Buffalo. 1468 miles that way, as opposed to 1594 through Detroit. The drive will be easier through Detroit, though, and you will have tolls in NY and WV if you go through Buffalo. I guess it's your choice; I like the drive down I-75 better than I-79 and I-77.

I would go I-90, to I-79 (Erie, Pa) and catch I-77 in West Virginia, take it to Columbia, SC and catch 26 to I-95. Be careful on I-77 in West Virginia and Virginia, cause it gets tricky.

They are recommending the I-75 route cause it is much easier driving. Once you're on 75, you can move pretty quickly.

Good luck, that's a long drive!

Actually, I just tried that inquiry on Google Maps, and it gave me a route that goes through Buffalo, which surprised me. Try it.

As for the reason, I would say I-75 is more populated / more places to stop, gas up, etc. It is fairly mountainous and the road winds a bit in W. Virginia & Virginia. But I do think it's the more interesting route!

I79/seventy seven, crossing at Buffalo/feet.Erie is the path with the smallest volume of mileage, although this is a risky path interior the iciness and not unavoidably the quickest. Lake effect snow is a situation, yet additionally the mountainous area you shuttle via in WV could be treaturous. Fog could be a huge situation throughout the time of the season adjustments additionally. while you're a CAA member, you ought to use the internet TripTik characteristic on the internet website or bypass right into a CAA save for routing information.

I would say to head towards Buffalo, take I-90 West to Erie and then hit I-79 South.
