There is a lot of talk about raising the minimum age.....Should there be exceptions to this....I mean do you really think that a person deserves 8-10/hr to deep fry french fries all day....I don't....personally I would not pay them more that 6 or 7 to do that all day if the gov did step in.....Are there some jobs that just don't deserve even 7-9 an hour.....I think there are.

I think this way because most of the people I know that have crappy jobs is because they choose not to do anything about it...they have dropped out of school, or just don't care to take the training or anythingt o move up...thats their own fault not the buisness owners.....IF they do nothing to improve their lives, they don't need mroe money......There are two ways to earn more in my mind....hard labor, or skilled labor....and flipping burgers at 30 is neither......

Anybody who works hard, deserves a living wage, dignity, and respect. They don't need to be insulted by someone like you.

you have to remember that allthough thiese jobs do not seem hard they also do not provide vacations or sick pay or madical insurance and also in many cases make you work weekends holidays and swing shifts...so they should be compensated some how shouldnt they...also we wouldnt need a wage increase if the cost of living didnt keep rising...so what would you say to a single mom due to circumstances out of her control (maybe husband dies or something) living in a small town with not many opportuinities trying to raise say 2 kids on 6-7 an hour...would you rather her get welfare instead of trying to raise her kids with what she could? My daughter works in a fasr food place and it is NOT all fry cooking sure some night she might do fries others she runs casheir and either way she has to deck scrub the floors clean the bathrooms wash off tables..It is NOT just cooking fries all night...and she is still in high school so i am thankful she has a job at all...

The cost of living has gone up so much that there are more people (families) then you know that live below the poverty line. That is sad. The unemployment rate right now is so low that it is hard to find a good job. Be happy that these people are working to get you food and are not dealing drugs or picking your pocket or sitting on a street cause they have no other way to get money.
How do you think that people are going to be able to get off of welfare and be able to afford to have a job? To be able to pay rent, daycare, car payment, gas, etc. You can't do that on $5/hour.
I have had the fast food jobs (and I ran my butt off) making $4-$5/hour and now that I have done the school thing and in my profession I am doing good for money. I am guessing that you didn't have the privalage of having the part time jobs when you were going to college.

People can't live on $5 an hour, bottom line. It will raise slowly over many years. The $7-9 an hour is not for a while. Here in Washington, the minimum is the largest in the country and there has been no harmful effects.

Well for one thing the fed min wage is $5.15/hr and there are states that follow that. Those states should've had it increased years ago. Suppose you are in a state where it's that much though. Usually it's because the price of living is high. You mention frying french fries. That job is harder than it looks especially when it's busy. When was the last time you worked fast food? There are people who support themselves like that and it is damn near impossible. So yes, I would suport an increase.

I really think the amount of pay a person receives should depend on the quality of work they do. I don't think the gov't should say what you have to pay a person. If your in high school 6 or7 $an hour should be enough to have a little fun, but if your 30 and still flipping burgers you don't deserve more money because you have shown no drive at all!!!!!!!!!!! MAN UP PEOPLE and take control of your life! Yes there are always exceptions, but not that many REAL exceptions.

Restaurant owners in New Orleans can't get that French fry guy for $10 an hour, according to PBS news last night. Nobody wants to work.
If you're tired of sending your hard-earned money to the crooks in New Orleans, let you Senators and Representatives know. That's the only way to stop the sucking sound of your money heading south.

God i would think that just because people had a job would make anyone happy. Instead of living off the gov. Who are you to say that you are better than anyone and that people who work fast food don't deserve a raise. Maybe you should work them and then decide. If I worked fast food and had to put up with people like you all day I would say they deserve to make more than you do. Think of how many rude people they have to put up with just so they have a job.

Oh, for heavens sake, get off your high horse already. Some people have trouble finding work, and sometimes deep fat frying french fries is what they can find. They at least deserve to be able to make enough to support themselves, and family, if applicable.
Or would you rather they continue to not make much money? Then they could still be eligible for assistance, food stamps, etc. And YOU would have to help pay for that!!!!!

I just want to state the facts:
Federal minimum wage is $5.15/hr
52 weeks a year, 40 hours a week you'd make:
$10,712
The last time federal minimum wage was changed was September 1, 2007. (when it was changed to 5.15)
I think that if it was raised it would only be raised to $5.50 at the most.
****Some states have minimum wages higher than federal minimum wage!
So, add up how much money you spent last year and see if you could live off of $10712
