You need to chart your basal body temp. to find out if you are ovulating.

Get a digital thermometer. Every am before you do anything (even talk or sit up) take temp. Chart it on graph paper (ie 97.9, 97.7, 98.1). It will fluctuate a little but at some point it should drop then a day or two later it with spike (ie 96.4....98.9) The time between the lowest and highest point is when you ovulate. then it will drop back to near your starting temp the day your period should start (it will stay a little higher after ovulation) if it does not go back to average (beginning level) you may be pregnant.

If it stay fairly flat line all month you have no ovulation and should see you Dr. may need Clomid.

the problem with ovulation predictors when you have irregular periods is you don't know when to test!

Having only 3 periods a year is not normal are you sure you haven't got a hormonal problem like pcos or a thyroid problem.
I would go back to a gyn/ob and get proper checks done.
Has your partners sperm been tested to see if theres a problem (he could have low sperm count)
If your under or overweight this can also affect your periods so you need to be at a healthy weight to conceive
You could try taking agnus castus (vitex chaste berry) this is a herb that can regulate your hormones.
start taking folic acid tablets before you get pregnant and until your 3 months pg
stop smoking and drinking alcohol as they can affect your fertility too
try to eat a healthy well ballanced diet with some exercise
Good luck and don't give up hope

My entire life my period was never regular. I got married last May and we weren't exactally trying, just doing nothign to stop it...figuring if we got pregnant it would just happen. In September I discovered I was pregnant, by taking 2 home tests and then going to the doc to confirm it with the blood test. Sadly though, I had a miscarriage in October. After I had a D&C my period has been regualr, almost to the day. What a change....but now its liek I know when we have to "try", and get disappointed the next month when it shows up again. As strange as it may sound, it was nicer not being on schedule and just knowing it could happen whenever. Best of luck to you.

Hi,

It must be very frustrating for you both.

If you start using OPK's - the internet cheapies are the best when you have such long cycles you will know when you ovulate.

You should also do the BBT method, as this will help you pinpoint your exact day of ovulation - although it won't give you advance warning it does confirm ovulation.

Also, it may be possible that you are ovulating more often than you think. - Your periods may be so light that you don't actually know they are happening. I myself can sometimes only have a very light show that last for a day - it is generally only a bit of spotting - but I have actually ovulated.

Use the OPK's and see how you go.

Best of luck

use ovulation kit... since you don't know when your period is going to come... invest on ovulation kits... they will tell you when you are most fertile.... btw.. don't get discourage because normally it takes 1 year to conceive and every month you only have 20% chance of conceiving.. so don't get discourage.... anyways.... also use your insticnt... look for ovulating signs... If you are discharging mucus like or raw egg white coming out.. that means you are ovualting or really fertile.. that's how I fell pregnant..through my observation on my most fertile days...

There is a lot of interesting theory about diet and proper nutrition. You need to overhaul your diet and lifestyle to make yourself not only more 'regular', more fertile, but also a better host for an embryo...same goes for your partner.
