Try World without tears by Lucinda Williams, Come on Come on by Mary Chapin Carpenter or Wreckin Ball by Emmylou Harris. Dixie Chicks have done some good stuff too and Johnnie Cash's last album was classic.
If you want a bit more rocky country for a change try some Neil Young or early REM
