It is common, but it is not prefessional. I hear it alot when managers speak to other managers or close peers, but not when it is used in a formal meeting. You might want to use, "I'll get back to you" or something similar. I would consider "give you a short" slang.

There are some contexts in which colloquialisms might be all right. But, whyuse them? I would urge you to develop and demonstrate a breadth of formal vocabulary. When your management is looking at candidates for future promotions, they try to conjure up how effective you'd be as a leader, representing the company. If that matters to you, you might consider strengthening your command of the language. Besides, your boss -- the guy who passes out the raises and promotions -- asked you not to use the phrase. Maybe he's being intrusive; maybe he's being helpful.

I grew up with people who used "gal" especially for women human beings, yet used "adult adult males" in the plural for human beings regardless of gender. i in my opinion would not use the term, yet i'm no longer offended by using it. that's somewhat overly casual, colloquial, or maybe condescending; even however, it incredibly is greater of a verbal habit than an meant insult, in maximum circumstances. i think of greater formal language is proper for the workplace, and much less dated words could make the speaker sound much less like a geezer. i do no longer think of you're a sexist pig. I savour your sensitivity in asking. i'm a 50+ lady Democrat who appreciates the ACLU.

In the professional world, shouting is unacceptatble - even if you really mean "I will call you later" or "My people will get with your people".

We do NOT shout honey, nor do we pick our noses in public, or cuss under our breath. LISTEN to the elders in your work/play life. They know whereof they speak.

No, this is definitely not acceptable in the workplace. It's disrespectful to speak in such a manner to customers.
