Yesterday I brought a jade bracelet for myself cos I thought it looked nice but now am paranoid its bad luck....anyone put me right or wrong?

p.s I'm pretty sure its like jade korus/fishhooks and the other maori designs that you shouldn't buy for yourself but I just want to make sure...

It comes down to supersitition, and clearly due to your paranoia you believe it.
So take the bracelet to someone well versed in Maori symbols, religion and mythology. But I cant see how symbols alone could make it "tapu" but I could be wrong.

The local Maori I have asked say that buying greenstone for yourself is definitely bad luck. They say that greenstone is meant to be bought as a gift for someone besides yourself. Interestingly I have known a few people who have bought greenstone for themselves and have had multiple things happen that made them feel uncomfortable wearing it. Of course, these feelings are very likely to be self-induced due to superstition, however, in a few instances the people who had bought the greenstone for themselves, and who ended up with the uncomfortable feelings, did not know about this Jade superstition beforehand. It's all very curious, really.

No, buying jade for yourself will not bring you bad luck. Whether Jadeite Jade or Nephrite Jade, Jade is always thought to bring good luck! This is valid in Chinese and a lot of Asian and Oriental cultures. It could be bad luck for other cultures, so it depends on what you believe.
Some people believe that it is unlucky to buy Opal for yourself and really good luck if someone gives you an Opal. Well, I've bought Opal for myself and have had no problems! Good or bad luck - it's possibly psychological.

i bought a jade bracelet and havent taken it off in about 10 years. ever since i put it on my life has been hell. i try to tell myself im crazy for believing in superstitions but i was wondering why i ve had such bad luck and someone asked if i bought for myself, i said yes, they said well theres your answer, bad luck! i think im going to break it off. sad, i ll let you know if my life gets better when i get it off!
