speaking German? '
Considering the war ended 61 years ago and i'm 28 I would have no difficulties speaking German as I would have grown up speaking it. And unlike most Americans I would probably have a great grasp of English and some other language as well.

I doubt if you would be speaking German, most likely Japanese as it took the bombing of Pearl Harbour for the US to enter the war. Great Britain and her allies were fighting the Germans long before the US. Did you you know that in the 30's time magazine wanted Hitler for man of the year..

its because a lot of them get their ideas about history and the world out side their own borders from Hollywood . Less than a fifth of the German army where even in Europe it was Russia that got the brunt of it and also did the most in their defeat
as it happens i wouldn`t mind speaking German or living their lifestyle Ive been there and its an good country to live in.

Actually of all the time I have spent on the boards you are the first one to mention that. It is usually only used as the punchline for French jokes.

Truth be known, we actually like the Germans. It is one of the few nationalities people around here do not get worked up about.

On the whole I wouldn't pay too much attention to our American half wit cousins - if you believed half of what they say, you would think they won the war on ther own! Take into account that they actually did sod all in WWII except supply weapons and money! They only joined in because the Japs bombed Pearl Harbour (harbour with a U - the proper way to spell) and only then did they realise that there was a problem - yes they helped - did they win on their own - NO!

As we can see from history in recent times - they aren't the brightest stars in the universe - shoot your allies and bomb your allies and run home to daddy BUSH and hide!

The truth is it would probably be Russian. The Germans would have lost in the end to the Soviets. So they would probably have dominated Europe. But, its all a game. No one can say with any certainty what would have happened if..... but of course they do because they are oracles.

You are right. They are full of themselves. The USSR did more than the USA in WW2 but they are not taught that much. And WW2 is so history we cant be sure that all the stories are true anymore. But a good question, would we have been better off under Adolf?
