Because as far as we know, we only live this life once. Why not make it as pleasant as possible while we're waiting for the next life?
Its kind of like visiting a place on vacation. Would you say what's the point of taking a tour, we are going to have to leave anyway? No, you just try to have fun and make it pleasurable.

The point, from my perspective, lies not in WHY we live, but in HOW we live.
Be happy, make others happy, enjoy life and learn what you can in the process. For some (as listed in previous answers) this lies with carrying on their lineage, for others, it's in serving a higher power or cause. And I'm sure that, if you ask enough people you'll get answers like "42", "waffles", and "Eva Longoria" (I'm going with that last one, personally).
Basically, for whatever reason, you're currently living a life. What you do with it is up to you, and you don't get any do-overs as far as I know.

Inquiring minds would like to know. Her is the story that was told to me by the church: To Seperate the good and evil.
We were put on Earth when Adam and Eve messed up.
Now because of that God is putting us through a series of test to determine wheter or not we go to heaven or hell. He wants us to win, but he has been wrong in the past with Satan, Adam, and Eve.

As far as I am concerned, I was born to procreat. I have done that 3 times..and given my kids a good start.... Now it doesnt matter if I die as I have fullfilled my reason for living. This might not be everyones take but it is mine.

it depends on who you ask that question to.. as a Christain. I believe we were put here to serve God. and send the world a message of salvation. others think it is to serve mankind and do good unto others. others say it is to pay taxes and die.. all things live and die sooner or later.as the old song says. there is a time to live,a time to die. a time to reap a time to sow
