Turn him over on his back and gently rub his tummy!! This hypnotizes him!! Okay, that's dumber than usual, for me. I DO KNOW. Turn your mouse over. The mouse will have a place on the bottom where you can pop it open and the ball will come out. Then you clean it with any cleanser. BUT the real problem is Mostly the 2 rods that are underneath the ball!! Take a butter knife or good envelope opener and scrape those 2 little rods to get the guck off of them!! Then pop the cleaned ball back in!! Viola!! Good Luck!! Hope that works for you!! @8-)

You can also soak the ball in a solution of laundry detergent and water. The roller bars inside the mouse, I like to use tweezers on them. Sometimes there is fuzz, etc. wrapped around it that a Q-tip alone won't remove. You'll be surprised what you pull out of your mouse! Good luck!

unscrew the bottom part and wipe off the ball and the little bars that hold it in place, with q tip or finger.
