She will need to do a combination therapy, like using a moisturizing wash, then a NON DRYING astringent, and a moisturizer. It will take a week or so to take affect, so she shouldn't get discouraged if it isn't instant.

Good Luck!

Interesting that no one has mentioned the VITAL step of EXFOLIATION!!

Basically if you have a dry layer of dead skin, no amount of moisturizer will penetrate through the layers. Dead skin blocks pours, and prevents the absorbtion of any external moisture into the skin.

What she needs to do is use one of the many methods of exfoliation out there. This ranges on how much money she wants to spend. She can dish out a lot for salon microdermabrasion, or much less for an at home microdermabrasion...but that can be too harsh.

A simple asprin mask works wonders. You take powdered asprin (or dissolve a few asprin in a tablespoon of water) then apply the paste to skin for 5-10 minutes. Use fingers to rub off dead skin right before rinsing. If she does this 2x a week she shoud be fine. Asprin is Salacitic Acid, the same ingredient found in many high end toners and exfoliating cleansers, serums.

After the layer of dry skin os removed, apply a natural mosturizer with antioxidants and good stuffs (does not have to cost a lot, I have a fabulous one from Simple).

There are many products out there that work. Gycolic acid, AHA's are the best as they do not scratch your skin, just penetrate through layers.

But try the asprin mask. All my friends swear by it...she'll have baby's botton skin without having to get a 2nd mortgage. :)

Clinique products are good. As well as the 3 step skin care routine, there are other moisturisers. Super Defence Triple Action Moisturiser is good to get rid of that tight skin feeling. It is available for different skin types. You can also buy from the pharmacy Doublebase. It is a hydrating gel for dry skin conditions that may be red or itchy like eczema. It is safe to use on the face ( I use it) and you can even use it on babies. It leaves a protective barrier on the skin to prevent further drying.

I get similar problem, especially in winter when the weather and central heating dries out the skin more than in the summer. Drinking extra water does help but a really good moisturiser is a must. I don't use soap on my face just a clean flannel rinsed out in hot water. Tell her to try Clarins Santal cream. It is expensive but does work. If she asks at Binns or big Dept store she should get a free sample to try first and see if it works for her and suits her skin, and a little goes a long way so worth it if it works for her.

Dr Hauschka is lovely (John Lewis) cost about £14. Try moisturiser in a bottle or, Rose cream in a tube. Also, Bio Oil from Boots about £7. Aloe Vera is also very good for dry skin - literally break off a stem of the plant and rub it on your skin. All of these products are natural - stay away from too many chemicals. Elemis is also very good - availalble from QVC.co.uk.

I use and love Shea Butter Cream. Shea Butter has many documented healing properties, with helping to strengthen Nails & Cuticles to helping heal scars, burns and blemishes, to minimizing wrinkles, just to name a few. Shea Butter melts upon skin contact to revitalize, soften and maintain moisture without leaving any greasy residue
Shea Butter is solid and comes from the natural fat obtained from the karite tree grown in West and Central Africa. Shea butter is an emollient. It is extremely therapeutic, helping to heal cracked, aged and damaged skin. Its chemical constituents help to heal bruising and soreness. Shea butter penetrates the skin and leaves it feeling soft and smooth. It has vitamin A, E and is highly compatible with skin.

Use Shea Butter cream rather than lotion. It is more concentrated. A good quality Shea Butter cream is a bit expensive. The one I use costs about $36.00 for 6 oz.(this includes shipping and handling), but it goes a long way. It keeps my face moisturized all day long. I apply it in the morning before I put on my makeup and at night after I cleanse my face.

Hi
I've been suffering from same problem especially with the harsh winter and indoor heating its made my skin very dry.
I've recently went out to one of the bigger department stores
( bigger stores are great you can try out samples and get professional advice).I went to my local House Of Fraser.
I brought home a cream called Fashion Fair Nourishing Skin Creme its abit costly but worth every penny.
I can only recommend that you shop around because good creams do actually work,I'm totally convinced.
I've tried cheaper facial cream before but suffered with blotches and allergy problems.
Every one's skin is different thats why I would advise to shop in bigger stores you can try free samples and see which 1 works best.

Here's a site reviewing feacial creams worth a try.Any way good luck hope I've been of help.

If she cleanses often the detergents used are too harsh. She should try an oil-based cleanser such as the ones by Shu Umera (can never spell it). Despite the fact that it's made from oil, it won't clog her pores, but it will hydrate more effectively. This is also effective at delaying the signs of ageing.

there are loads of moisturising products out there ranging in price from £few to £+++
the best people to ask would be your doctor or pharmasist and they can advise both how to prevent dry skin and the best treatment for it

watched a programme last night called 'the truth about food'
they proved that extra water has no effect on skin at all

Try putting lotion on the face before putting on the foundation. This will help with the dry skin. Most any type of lotion works, just make sure that it is specialized for the face and not the body.
