My bubble wrap faces outwards, cos if anything bumps it, it'll get cushioned BEFORE it gets to the thing I've wrapped. If you face it INWARDS, the impact is too near to the fragile object, so I like to think the protection is there FIRST. The "psychotic genius" had the best idea, though - double bubble for protection on both sides.

put the bubbles on the outside for bump impact,either way the noise of it popping drives me absolutely nuts hate the stuff

Double it up if you have enough, one layer bubbles on inside and one layer bubbles on outside.
Personally I would put the bubbles on the INSIDE as they will then conform to the shape of the ornaments.

i would say away from the item because then it doesn't pop on the object wrapped up in it and absorbs more of the impact. hope it gets where its going in one piece.
