Why is it that White men make more than White women?

Question

I have heard that "White Men" make more than any other race including white women. Why is this? And is it true?

The statement that it isn't true anymore is not a "fact", I just saw on the news or shall I say a commercial for tonights news and also in my ethics class about white men indeed making more.

For every dollar that a man makes a woman makes 77 cents

A few reasons, one is it is normal for men to have the more dangerous and higher paying jobs. Such as I have never heard of a woman deep sea construction worker. Another is pay is based on an average of all and there are quite a few more house wives than their are house husbands, since more women do not work their average goes down (maternity leave also effects this). Because of child raising women generally do not receive the promotions men do.

However it should make you feel better knowing women control most of the money even if they are not making it. A study has shown that men indeed make more than women, a man will make roughly 75 cents out of every dollar made. However women spend 85 cents out of every dollar spent, which is why in advertisements you always see the woman doing it right and the men are generally incompetent, businesses know who is going to be doing the buying.

For the most part; it's true. When women started to work they were considered to be less educated than men, in some cases true, & that their value was not equal to a man.
A woman could work along side a man, do the same job & receive less pay! I questioned this & was told that it was because he had a family to support! I don't know why they thought I was there, if not for the same reason!
Because whites are in the majority & dicrimination is still out there; against woman & minorities; white men still receive more pay & are mostly put in higher postions that pay more. It is changing, but slowly.

I think the gap has been closing for a long time. White men have been at the head of companies for a longer period in our society, as the work force ages and changes you will continue to see diversity in race and gender across board rooms.

PS. I make more money than my husband, we are both managers, his title carries more weight and responsibility. But I have more education and therefore make more money.

Men will make more than women. Think of this way, men don't take time off to make babies (well, actually, giving birth). Sorry ladies, but that's the glass ceiling -- I know it ain't right!
