I don't know much about what books are good...I taught myself pretty much everything from the internet. The two sites above are pretty helpful for showing chord makeups and it tells you what notes are being played to form the chords. The last website listed explains how to play pentatonics and scales which are also important to understand.

Another good place to look is www.youtube.com There are quite a few videos that have a lot of good information showing different techniques and explaining and showing the things that are hard to understand when just reading about how to play something.

Good luck! The guitar is a great instrument.

Most any beginners guitar book will do, its more how much you practice. Its better to get a few lessons so you don't get into bad habits though

a tape or dvd would be better than a book because you can actually hear what your supposed to do. i suggest finding someone in your area to teach you. also, this website has an amazing amount of information for everything related to guitar: www.ultimate-guitar.com
