unfortunately, you will probably have to wait about a year after the upcoming July 21st '07 hardback release date for the paperback edition to come out.

Most books will only release hardcover first and then the publisher rolls out a printing of the book in paperback as the sales slow down from the initial book release. The gap is typically a year from the first hardback edition.

For example, the 6th Harry Potter book came out in Paperback in July '06 and the Hardback was released July '05 - a year to wait, if you wanted paperback.

If part of your wanting paperback is cost and not just a preference for how the books feel or how much space they take up, the good thing about Harry Potter is that because of the tremendous popularity of the books most chains and online stores will sell the hardback for deep, deep discounts. So even though the hardback will be listed at $39.95, Amazon.com's pre-order price is (I think) less than $20. So unless you want to wait until '08 (yikes, I couldn't!) Hardback's the way to go.

Yes, it will be released in paperback, but probably not until the following year. Hardcovers are always released first.

When it comes out, try getting it from your library. Then you can read it right away and not have to spend a lot of money on the hardback.
