Sounds like a Ganglion cyst but I'm confused as to what a thumbwat is. Ganglion cysts are more commonly located at the bend of the wrist. There are cases where the cyst is located within the palm and they can be painful. I would suggest seeing a Doctor and having it X-rayed to rule out any bone disorders or fractures. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome may also be another disorder to check into.

You need to see a doctor. ASAP. Don't delay any longer.

When you have a lump on your body, especially accompanied by pain. I'm sure you know that the pain indicates something is not right with YOUR lump. No matter which other family members had lumps in common with you, the significant thing is that you need to have your lump checked out by a doctor.

FYI: A lump can be a cyst, but can also be something else. Only a doctor can make the determination after examining your hand.

Hope this helps!

I have a lump on my left hand, for 20 years now, above the wrist, no trouble though, the doctor told me if it grows larger and causes pain, he'll remove it, but it is just fatty tissue. It's starting to hurt now I'll see my doctor.
