I recently picked up a book by Jude Devereaux called A Knight in Shining Armor. I'm not normally a romance novel fan, usually too smutty, but something about this one grabbed me. It's a time travel story, so it's partially in modern day England and then it jumps back to medieval England. There is fish out of water on both ends. It's not overly sexual, but it is plenty of romance, drama, and maybe a bit of history. There's some mystery as the heroine tries to find out what happened to her time traveling boyfriend.
I loved her storytelling ability so much I sought out more of her books. I next read Legend, another time travel story with a really strange twist to it. I also would recommend this book.

Not knowing how old you are, for teens, I recommend books by Joan Lowery Nixon, Caroline B. Cooney, and Lois Duncan.
For adults, well, my favorite adult authors are Carl Hiaasen, John Irving, and Rita Mae Brown.
For younger kids, Mary Downing Hahn is a great mystery writer.

The Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. It's about a girl named Bella who falls in love with a vampire, and they go through many adventures to be able to stay together. It's in the YA section, and it's the PERFECT combo of romance, fiction, and adventure. Even with all that, it still has a sense of reality. You can relate to Bella's problems (lost love, school, divorced parents, etc.). You should check out the website to see if it will interest you.

The Outlander by Diana Gabaldon.
It's a series, but you don't have to read beyond the first one, if you don't want to (though I sure did--I read them all. They're that good.)
I guess you could call these books historical romantic action dramas. But that barely covers it. The writing is exceptionally good.

I'm reading a book called "Tales from the town of widows and chronicles from the land of men." There's no mystery in it, but there's everything else. It's funny, sad, deep.... terrific.

Read any of the "number" series by Janet Evanovich, like "One For The Money".
The serial stars a character who is a bounty hunter--a very BAD one! She has 2 wonderful men after her, and she's always getting into hilarious scrapes. Her friends and family are really funny, too....you'll enjoy it!
