Well, I am going away to a 6 week dance camp over the summer and I am worried about my period. I've NEVER used tampons before...I prefer to stick to pads. I'm 14 by the way. And I'll be in a liatard[NO idea how to spell that.lol] and tights. Just that, so I can't wear a pad. So what should i do? Help!!

You are old enough to switch to tampons so I would reccomend it.You have a little while to gradually get use to it so I would start now.I know it is gross and not comfortable but once you get use to it it will be more comfortable then the pads exspecially for dancing.Good Luck

Practice using them now. Have mom buy you the "slender" or "junior" size tampons with the rounded plastic applicator. Lock yourself in the bathroom with a hand mirror and practice putting them in.
If it hurts a lot, you're doing it the wrong way. And if you put it in and if feels like it's falling out, then it's not in all the way.

when you take it out, pull on the string slowly and gently.

Once you know how to do it, pack the right kind of tampons in your camp bag along with some panty shields. Somtimes tampons can leak. Panty shields are very thin and won't show thru your leotard.
If you need the mirror, pack a small hand one in your bag too.

And remember, don't leave them in for mor than 4 hours at a time. It's not healthy.
And talk to mom. She's been through that all before too :)

I know you'd probably rather walk on hot coals than talk about tampons with your mom, but talk to her (or other guiding woman in your life) and explain your dilemma. I used to be a competitive ice skater, and trying to do that with a pad was MISERABLE!! I always had to leave practice to change it and was worried a lot about leaks. I didn't discover the benefits of tampons until I was 16 and had given up skating. I'd probably have skated longer if I had branched out earlier. I know it may be really intimidating, but talk to your mom. She may have tips or be able to alleviate your hesitation to tampons. If you think you want to try them, do it before you go to camp so you are comfortable with how to use them. Good luck, and don't let that part of your month interfere with the rest of your life! You'll be able to cope before you know it.

Buy a box and try them. Read the instructions first. Start with the smallest size and work up. Always were a mini pad with a tampon. And never wear white pants. Trust me.

Try maxipads or before camp start trying to use a tampon. They really don't hurt. Just try them out and then you can do very many things. If you would like to stick with pads just change them every few hours.

Well, it's really on two options. Wearing a tampon or not going to camp. Tampon are not the bad. Talk with your Doc. make sure you know the correct way to use them and then go for it.

At 14 there is no reason why you can't use a tampon. My first REAL gf was 14 when I started dating her(1962-1965). Her mother said , ONLY NON-VIRGINS WEAR TAMPONS. What a nut! My gf said I'M WEARING TAMPONS! And she did! She REALLY looked good in SHORT-SHORTS (4'10", 95#). No pad to keep her out of them.

Sorry to tell you yet there truly isn't. Menstruation is a organic element, and in basic terms a disturbance interior the hormones (which you haven't any longer any administration over) could make your era come faster or later. the only element which will in many situations shrink to rubble my era is stress yet like a crap load quantity of stress that can make my era around 2-4 months late.

definitely try tampons. it may be nervewrecking at first but its totally worth it. they make super slim ones for younger girls. you can't even feel it when its in. trust me. you'll wonder how you ever survived wearing icky pads.

if you feel really uncomfortable w/it just wear the thin pads and see if you'll be allowed to wear a little skirt or something over your leotard.
