Thanks for your help guys. And I believe it said on the news last night that in Gulf War One that over 40% of US soldier fatalities were friendly fire....Are there Iraqis in the US Army or are they just THAT inadequate?

Friendly fire or not, If I'd been in command of the ground force, I'd have shot the tw@t down when he started his second run. He deserves to be arrested for manslaughter, he broke the rules of engagement and should pay the same price the man he killed had to.

"FOG OF WAR" is bullsh!t..... an excuse for incompetence..... lets not forget that these so called pilots were not unable to contact headquarters for backup or information. They had state of the art coms and could have double checked the original reports they were given.... ALSO if they had bothered to get clearance to attack then the target would have been checked and realised to be friendlies.... AND if they weren't such cowards they could have done a flyby at high speeds to double check the target.... "fog of war" more like incompetent cowards.

The US forces are $hit hot and can kick a$ss so fast and so hard you don't even know you have been killed.
Sometimes mistakes are made and friendlys accidently get wasted.
The British are no match for 1 battalion of US forces and are only there as a puppet force to show political support for the US.
As in WW2 the british Montgomery kept getting in General Pattons way with his inadiquatly equipped army.
Don't get me wrong, British troops are excelent soldiers, but there equipment sux and they deserve better.
I think the british army should be dispanded and formed into a battle group of the american army. Britain could become a State.
They could keep the queen and still have the vote, but they would not have to grovell in the gutter anymore and have a better standard of life.
Everyone in the states knows that the british don't know one end of a gun from the other unless they join the army.

i will answer this in stages (i am British).
1 the American pilot did not murder a British soldier "fact".
2 the "neighbour" was in front of the British media. (do you think the British media wanted to go to America and report this as it is?) i don't think so.
they will incite him and talk to him off the record until he is talking their language, then they will start recording the news that they helped to make.
3 the British journalists are there to do a job, but to do the job better than anyone else they have to make it interesting news.
i would have loved to be there before they started recording, if that was possible i think that the journalist would be in court on charges.
4 it is happening all the time in Britain, with the "fight against extremist Muslims" the journalists are putting words into the mouths of anyone that is willing to repeat them. and if no one is willing to repeat them then THEY will keep repeating them until we the public all believe that what they say is the right thing.
5 the ground crew of the American pilot do have questions to be answered and if any charges are brought then it should be them that are taken to court.
6 the American pilot did what he was ordered to do and served his time in the war valiantly and should be proud and able to tell his grand children that he was a part off the war against terror.

It happens in all wars. It is impossible sometimes to know who the enemy are. When I was in Africa years ago in a civil war two battalions of the same side exchanged fire and heavy gun fire all night and in the morning there were over 500 dead and injured. You just shake hands and get on with it.

i didn't see him say that, the a10 pilot should of realised that the tanks had the allied markings on (large orange blocks) that could be seen from the air. but he was given a go from his control team & they did say there was no allied armor in that sector.

all allied forcers should be using iff, and they should run dry fire exercisis to test the system. then things like this wont happen. you have to feel sorry for the pilots, they didnt do this on perpos & they have to live with it forever.

That percentage of friendly fire was even higher in past wars. You may want to check your source on the Gulf War. Just because the a news sources states it doesn't mean it's accurate. You have no clue what they counted on as "friendly fire". Well, would you like the US Army any less if you had a German flag flying in your back yard?

Murder? Incompetence, inadequate training, series of unforeseen errors, bad luck, typical risk averse US war making, a horrible horrible accident. But NOT MURDER! Have any of you heard of the "fog of war"? Remember, these guys did contact their HQ and were told there were no friendly forces in the area. So were those orange patches or orange missiles? Its your call and you've 3 seconds to decide.

Why are there so many angry people on Yahoo Q&A willing to froth over all and sundry? And before the anti-Americanists get their voodoo dolls out, I'm a Brit, so there.

mistakes are made in war,its inevitable.
but that f...ing idiot of a neighbor was a disgrace to speak the way he did.
yes the us did help us in two world wars but only after we (the uk) had been fightin on limited recources for two years.
he should publicly appologise and then shut the f..k up.
