I have listened to Iron Maiden, Symphony X and Dream Theater. I have also heard of Blind Guardian and Therion.
I know that the Maiden's should be some kind of a rock/metal band (I guess - I'm not that good with the modern rock terminology!); Of Symphony X I have not much to say, but Dream Theater is a great band! All of the members are real masters on their instruments (even that Japanese (Korean?) bass player who looks like his hands are gonna fall off if he holds that guitar one more minute!).
But, the most interesting story I know, of the bands you've listed, is about Blind Guardian. They are (??) a gothic rock band (???) and all their work, including the lyrics, is based on J.R.R. Tolkien's novels! That's really cool...
